please forgive me if this post contains spelling errors orpunctuation errors or any errors. Today, after many people have told me that I need this, I finally purchased Dragon, NaturallySpeaking.

This software, which is normally very expensive, was only $35 with a rebate and a discount from Tiger direct.com.

She came with the headset that I am using right now. What I actually just said was that it came with the headsetI am using right now-not she.

the reason I purchased this software was because I was recently asked to write a book. That's a lie. Actually I was asked to write a book about a year and a half ago by a division of Random House.  wow! It actually knew how to spell Random House and capitalize it. But I digress...

my contact at Random House has become very frustrated with me because I have not finished the project by the deadline as was presented to me. When I told him that I just can't stand sitting and typing for hours and hours and hourshe suggested that I get the software and simply dictate my book, send him the manuscript, and an editor would take it from there. Now that I'm actually using it I can see why he said that. Who needs of proper punctuation when someone can edit your stuff anyway? Just talk away a you are an author!

Anyway you can see that it's not perfect. However, I find this extremely useful. I used to use a tape recorder and then I would have to listen to my tape recorder and tight for my dictation.

Type for my dictation is what I meant to say.

as you can see, it's not working  perfectly. I still haven't figured out why my sentences aren't being capitalized all of the time.

However this software has won tons of awards and boasts a 99% accuracy-out-of-the-box. So why does this blog looks so choppy and bad? because I haven't even trained it yet. You have to spend many hours training the software so it recognize your accent your speech pattern and your vocabulary in general.

I was just so excited to try it out and make my first blog in which I lean back in my chair with an ice tea, and don't even touch the key keyboard-that I just went ahead and made this post.  one small problem-the reason that last sentence read key keyboardis because I sometimes stutter when I speak. I don't know how the software is going to deal with that, but I'm excited to find out.

I do think this is absolutely amazing software and once it learns to understand my mumbling, I figure I have a very good relationship together.

I would recommend it to anybody. Especially someone that may have arthritis or just has a lot of typing to do. You may become the most prolific blogger on active rain. I'll try this out again in a week after I have the software trained and will see how perfectly it works.

I have not touched my mouse or keyboard this entire time. Any punctuation that you see are paragraph breaks or anything else or I'll done through the microphone I'm wearing on my head right now.

Again I apologize for all the spelling and punctuation errors. But according to every review I've read of Dragon, this software is only going to get better.

I know Todd Clark uses Dragon for his blogs! Pretty cool! Glad you invested in it. I am so jealous! I keep hoping the Droid phone comes out with a speech to text feature, but not yet.

Many blessings, Jill

Yea I'm so disappointed 1984 came and gone with nothing. I partied like it was 1999 in 1999. The Y2K was a let down, no big crash. 2010 and NO FLYING AUTOS, that the WE were promised by the Jettisons and Modern Science Magazine. Put a man on the moon in the 60' can't do it today if we needed to. I'm glad some tech is working.

I've thought about getting this. I could crank out posts all day long. I heard it will get better as it gets use to your voice. My GPS doesn't like my Southern twang, so I rarely use it, would the Dragon like it?

A friend of mine uses this technology all the time, he was telling me that the system learns each time you use it. It figures out your speech patterns and evenually learns what you are meaning to say, pretty impressive....

I tried Dragon Voice years ago when it first came out. I trained it for a couple of hours, but it turned out to be a very slow student. Since I type over 90 wpm anyway, I just went back to that. Who knew that texting would take the place of talking?

Maybe Dragon has improved over the years and become smarter. Certainly the price has gotten a lot lower!

Cheers,

Robin

Very cool... we experimented with speech recognition back in the 80's when I was at Grad School doing computer generated music pieces. Your experiment is very much like performance art. It will be fun to see where this goes for you. It's kind of weird in a way that we use software now that's learning about us.

The immediate benefit I see is the ability to voice out an idea. The biggest challenge in writing for me is staring at the blank page. It gets easier when there is something on the page. Fun post...
