It's Military Appreciation month, and we here at Beach Ball Realty certainly have the utmost respect and appreciation for all those serving in our nation's Armed Forces. So we wanted to let you know about an exciting event taking place this weekend right here in Pensacola.
In support of our troops, Navy Federal Credit Union is holding the 1st Annual 5k Run/Walk to benefit the Armed Forces Relief Trust. All the net proceeds from the event will be going towards the Relief Trust, which provides assistance to military aid societies by serving as a conduit for donations. The A.F.R.T. benefits the men and women of our Armed Forces by helping to meet the financial, emergency, and everyday needs of our troops and their families. Race spokesperson Carla McKeag says that this race is a great event for "giving the armed forces the recognition they deserve."
According to McKeag, 365 runners have already registered for the event, which starts at 8am on Saturday, May 22nd. The race will begin and end at Seville Square on the corner of Alcaniz and Zarragossa in beautiful downtown Pensacola. This is truly a FUN RUN in every sense of the phrase, as the run will not be officially timed (although awards will be given to top finishers in each age category) and the primary focus is honoring the men and women who bravely serve in the military.
Water will be provided during and after the race to keep all participants and volunteers adequately hydrated. Additionally, the first 500 to register are guaranteed a t-shirt and will also be eligible for door prizes. If you are registering as Active Duty Military, you will be required to show valid military ID at the packet pickup. To pick up your packet early, head to Seville Quarter located at 130 East Government St on Friday the 21st between 4-7pm. Registration for the day of the run begins at 7:15.
