Sunday Sermon- Time to Get Your Moxie

By
Real Estate Agent with The Overton Group, LLC Pitt & Carteret County NC 213723 Broker

Sunday Sermon: 8-5-07

Ive Got Moxie - How 'Bout You ?

I have quite a bit of American Indian ( Choctaw and Creek )  in me and my husband will tell you I have a stubborn streak..

I didn't say meanness just stubborn - there's a difference! I prefer to call it Moxie !

With over 12 years in Real Estate I have honed my moxie  to gain that edge necessary to succeed.

Moxie has many definitions :  Do you have Moxie ???

mox·ie: n. /Slang

vigor; verve; pep.

courage and aggressiveness; nerve.

skill; know-how.

The ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage. Aggressive energy; initiative.

Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006

____________________________________________________________________________________

Moxie is perseverance - persistence to many as well. Knowing to stay in the game when others are tiring. It is fair to say in this real estate market we are facing, many will just throw in the towel and look for a new career. I have received emails from a fellow Realtor asking to stop by and look a the cars on the lot he is now working on. Others like single moms are trying to determine where the next paycheck is coming from.

I understand. I really do. Guys, this is called being in the trenches- maybe 21 points behind...we can get out- if we find our moxie!!  Right here on this forum lies valuable and test proven ideas that can jump start your moxie and get you back in the lead. Don't slow down because the market has. This is the time to go at it harder. It takes more work in a slow market- alot more.

  • Take this time to tweak your website
  • Personally call your sphere of influence- have them recruit for you: Buyers Market -Invest
  • Write a plan of action and stick to it- what can you be doing better?
  • Evaluate your day and prioritize your time- The focus is on tackling the task before starting another.
  • Get off your butt--yep, slow market  does not mean you get to stay home and socialize on AR all day :-)

Apply what AR has been teaching you and go make it happen !

Frank Lloyd Wright  says it best   "I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen."

To me it is a state of mind. Moxie comes from within. I think we all possess it . Now it is a matter of who will reach deep within and use it ! Today I challenge you to get your moxie and make this week a productive one!

and finally ....can I get an Amen! ( gotta check out the link ok ! )

Hi Michele, thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought Moxie was the capital of Arkansas. YES I'm kidding!

So true, it's how we deal with the tough times in business(and life) that separates the winners from those who never seem to get out of the starting gate.

Michele, I've never been accused of having moxie. My friends say it another way: Fran, you're an opinionated sob. Your post is almost as good as the sermon I heard this morning. Thanks,

P.S. This may be a nutty day: almond

Happy to see that moxie is infectious!

Joan, love that you are using your moxie !

Fran- opinionated is considered independent and a typically a leader - sob may be a compliment ;-)

Robert- not an attempt to fulfill- moxie is an approach to adversity .

Ginger- smiling- I took a break from the house and went to the beach for a few hours- "-)

Jay- Moxie is now a slang but yep- you are right use to be a drink ---thanks for stopping in!

Marti- you've got moxie- and always a great outlook on things, thanks for stopping by and reading my post!

Michele, Just read your comment on my post - thanks! Our posts address some of the same issues - how to survive in this shifting market.

And I agree with you with a capital "A"! Moxie is the very trait that will allow us to rise to the top in a challenging market. We need to do some serious renovating of our business practices, not because they haven't worked, but because as the market shifts, we must refine our strategies to make the most of our precious time.

Here's to moxie!!

Hello Michele,
Ok, yes I do have Moxie--I just didn't know that was what it was called. Now, when I'm accused of being difficult or stubborn, I can say --No, I just have Moxie! I like it.

Amen! Michele I loved this post, I am 1/16th Indian, and I have Moxie!  I am a single mother and work as a Notary Signing Agent, a Private Investigator and a Civil Process server.  I work full time in an Investigations and Polygraph Office as an Office Manager and do surveillance, home loan signings and civil process on my off time.  I have an assistant who covers the office when I go off to do my Contract Labor jobs.  I am constantly reminding myself to be persistant!  Thanks for the boost.  I get knocked down, but I get up again..
