Open Letter to the Hawaii MLS

By
Real Estate Agent with Kona Home Team (luva llc) RS 62947

The new Hawaii Information Service is so full of bugs and quirks; it’s not fair to agents or clients. Can you imagine trying to do 1 update, and having to go through 15 pages of questions just to complete a simple update? I have sat there with clients for 30-45 minutes trying to get an update completed. I for one do not have the time to be a Guinea Pig for the Hawaii MLS, if you do, please dismiss this posting, but if you’re tired of wasting your time, please act on this. I am not looking to start a war with Hawaii MLS, I am just looking for other agents, clients, to speak their voice – take the time to voice your opinion – send emails, make calls, let them know your disappointment. In fairness to the H.I.S., they are claiming that this is a new universal format that is required, but I have talked to agents in other states, and they find this completely ludicrous. Investigating on my own I find this format, not universal with other MLS systems, but more in a universal format that reflects some of the PAY PER VIEW type of listing’s, (similar to Yahoo Real Estate – your public listings are being sold to special interest groups for a financial gain to HIS ) .rather than a legitimate MLS listing. So Hawaii MLS if you are wasting the time of licensed agents to further your financial gains – shame on you. If this is truly a universal Realtor format (not Realtor.com) – I will delete this, and post a retraction to this post. Realtors, you know how to contact your local MLS representatives. Clients, if you not sure how to contact them, email me directly and I will send you information. I feel compelled to not post Hawaii MLS contact information publicly, again I am not trying to start a war, just trying to draw attention to a real problem! I am Realtor - Lance Owens and I approve of this message (had to put that in there)

Our local MLS used a program called Kinnexus that was a hybrid of a inventory program and after 2 years and MANY bugs, our IT staff went to the NAR conventiona and the Kinnexus booth was EMPTY and they stopped taking our calls.

Hawaii is unfortunate in that it can't absorb or merge with other MLSs like on the Mainland; however, re-creating the wheel was our MLS original mistake which we paid for DEARLY!!!

We now use Solid Earth and I am very happy with it as our requests don't take FOREVER to be implimented.  Good luck with your situation....there is always Craigslist!!

Lance, aren't upgrades that are designed to make your life easier wonderful? Wish that you had other MLS options.

its amazing - our MLS is about $40.00 a month - I believe the highest in the nation, and our IDX is about another $39.00 a month - OUCH - it really hurts

What ever happened to customer/client first - I guess we are not a customer/client at $40.00 a month, were are just a pawn in the game :)

Sounds like a nightmare Lance. Can't say I don't look forward to the day the MLS loses its hold. I've escaped NC (there is a God), am back in Florida, and will be settling in horse country (Ocala).
