I have two dogs and have thought about it quite often but just can't handle the added expense.

I have Care Credit and many veterinary offices do take it, I'm told . . . haven't tried yet with my own vet but she's pretty inexpensive.

I looked at the premiums and elected to not get insurance. Barring major surgery, the premium is more than our annual vet expenses for our Yorkie.

Lorrie, it cost as much to take a pet to the Vet as it does for a person to go to a Doctor. It will probably be a wise investment in the future as costs escalate.

Lorrie,

I have pet insurance and have had it since my cat was only 9 months old. He will soon be 11 years old and believe me the expenses when a pet gets older is very high, especially for cleaning their teeth which requires anesthesia. I am glad that I took this insurance, since I do not have to consider the cost, and just tell the vet to take care of my cat.

All interesting responses and I'm glad that you took the time to participate in the poll. It is a hot topic and hopefully if someone is considering it, and has no past experience in that realm, they'll be better equipped to make a decision as to whether or not it's right for their situation.

I had pet insurance with my other dog years ago. When he was a pup it was okay coverage, but then each year that he got older the more it cost and the less coverage I got. The "exclusions" got longer and longer. As far as I'm concerned, it's a scam.

I haven't taken the poll yet, but I can tell you that we don't have pet insurance. I don't even know if we have life insurance anymore. Finances are tight, and we just pray for God to protect us. Sometimes all you can do is hope and pray for the best.
