Hey Bob, Where's My New Water Company Located?

Here in Owasso, Oklahoma, this is a question I am often asked after or during the process of closing on a house.  Now, this may sound like an odd question to you, but here in the Owasso area it is pretty common.  This is because Owasso and Collinsville are outer suburbs of the greater Tulsa area.  For years and years, people who lived outside the Tulsa city limits and county of Tulsa had to find their water and electricity elsewhere.  The utility companies of Tulsa did not reach all the way out to the outer suburb areas.

So Verdigris Valley Electric Cooperative was developed after Oklahoma's Seventeenth Legislature approved Senate Bill SB141 on April 14, 1939. The bill was an act providing for the organization of electric cooperative, non-profit, membership corporations to engage in rural electrification in the state of Oklahoma.

For a more detailed history of rural electrical cooperatives in Oklahoma, visit IECOK.COM.

Now you are probably yawning and wondering why any of this important.  Well, when you need to get your water turned on in your new home in the Owasso or Collinsville Oklahoma areas, it suddenly becomes very important.  And because we have different utility companies, it can be somewhat confusing.

So, if you're moving to the Owasso Oklahoma area, keep this in mind...

Your electric company will be one of the following:

AEP-PSO - 1-888-216-3523
Verdigris Valley Electric Co-operative - 371-2584

And keep this in mind too.  If your electric company is VVEC, you will have to go the facility in person to set up your service and pay your deposit.  And VVEC is located in Collinsville at 8901 E 146th Street North, rather than in Owasso.

And how do you know which company to use?  Simple!  Just ask the seller of the home you are buying.  And the same thing is true for water companies too!  And if your seller doesn't know, your Realtor will!

Your Owasso water company will be one of these:

City of Owasso Public works system - 918-272-2251
Rogers County Rural Water District #3 - 918-341-0851
Rogers County Rural Water District #4 - 443-2542

Below is a map showing the location of the water companies and Verdigris Valley Electric Co-operative.

Owasso OK Utilities

You can see on the map that if you didn't know where you were going, you might get easily lost.  Also, you will see that there is a black dotted line on the map.  This is 145th street in Owasso.  145th Street is the boundary between Tulsa and Rogers county.  If you live on the west side of 145th street, you typically will be in the Owasso utility district.  If you live on the east side of 145th street, you typically will be in the Verdigris Valley and/or Rural Water utility districts.  The same thing is roughly true of 126th Street North.

Confused?  Don't be!  Your Owasso Realtor can answer all of these questions regarding which utility company you will be serviced by when you live in Owasso and Collinsville Oklahoma.

Hi Bob,

We agree this info is important.  Whenever we have a buyer we send them utility information two weeks prior to settlement, detailing who provides electric, gas, oil, propane, water, sewer, trash, phone, cable, and internet.  We provide phone numbers and let the buyers know when they have a choice and when they don't and who must be contacted prior to settlement.  Our buyers have always been so appreciative to have this information all compiled in one spot.
