Does anyone know what Romesco Sauce is?
Kevin has recommended Blacksmith's Bistro located at 3914 St. Elmo Avenue Chattanooga, several times during the past year and although we pass by each trip through St. Elmo we have never stopped. On Wednesday, Ryan was raving about the Sunday Brunch at Blacksmith's calling it "maybe the best".
Tonight we wanted to try a new menu. We called ahead and when we arrived with our party of three the table was set with a table tent reserving it for us. The dining room was still slow at 6:00 but that changed quickly as it seemed like everyone followed us for dinner. Quickly the dining room quaint patio at the foot of the Incline were packed.
Our server Larry shared the specials, knew the menu well and gave us just the time we needed. No more...no less. When he learned of my affection for a good IPA my glass was filled with Jockamo by Abita.
Our dinner started with a Hummus Plate (house made) that included some roasted red peppers, fresh sliced avocado and greek olives. The three of us shared this on Pita Chips as we commented on how busy the restaurant had become.
For her entree Patrice ordered the Salmon Romesco with Polenta and house veggies (haricot vert seasoned perfectly). Carolyn ordered the New York Strip, thick and juicy, lean and rare and I ordered the Baby greens salad with a Kobe Burger served with house cut fries.
We will return, the dishes were prepared as expected and on cadence. We moved from appetizer to salads to dinner as if we were the only diners present. The steak was perfect, the salmon was extremely tasty and my burger was special!
Carolyn ordered a Pavlova for dessert that was delivered to the table with blackberries, blueberries, strawberries and homemade vanilla ice cream on a meringue cookie, exquisite!
Blacksmith's Bistro is not for the kids although Sunday brunch may work. If you are looking for a slow, quiet dinner this is a good choice. Next time, we will enjoy dining outside!
Romesco is a sauce typically made of almonds, roasted garlic, red peppers and olive oil...most often served with seafood.
