Hi Aline,
I am very happy to see that you visited this post and got to see Peabody. My volunteering at the Beatooth Nature Center is going very well. I love participating in the Education program. I learned a lot of info about the animals that live at the BNC and I love to get to use all that info and teach the kids, the adults and seniors when giving private tours.
Peacocks have that "knock your socks off" gorgeous blue color that isn't duplicated any place else. Everytime I see one, I think the gods were showing off, when they created them!
Myrl,
It sure seems like there showing off! I agree with your comment. :)
Marchel,
He actually is in the same cage as Niles, a sandhill crane. Not only he knows it but he does like to show off his colorful feathers to Niles as it can be seen by the following photo.
Hi Gerry ~ These photos are extraordinary! If I can't have a moose I'll take a peacock!
Liz
Gerry, great photos of the peacock. When I was in elementary school we used to walk past a farm that had a peacock, it brings back some great old memories!
Liz,
Yes. It was moosely a peacock and sandhill crane day for me today! Wait till you see the photos of the sandhill crane I took today (coming soon in a future post).
Tony and Darcy,
Thank you. I am always for remembering good old memories especially if there were great old memories!
Stunningly beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing information about what sounds like a wonderful nature center.
Gerry: I am totally amazed that a living, breathing creature can actually LOOK that beautiful. Your peacock photo is absolutely gorgeous. Wow !
WOW Gerry! You captured Peabody in living COLOR! So glad I stopped by to see what you were up to, since I have a "soft spot " for peacocks! =o) I used to live in a town that had a peacock and a peahen that lived at the city park. I always felt so bad for the hen, her sad brown and tan feathers were NO MATCH for that beautiful male, and they both knew it! *sigh* My uncle who lived nearby raised all types of unusual birds, guinea hens, peacocks, Chilean hens, and while they were all beautiful as well, they make a LOT of noise, and are sometimes kind of MEAN! =o( Thanks for sharing this beautiful creature with us!
Carisa,
You are welcome. We and the animals are lucky to have a wonderful refuge for the animals in the Beartooth Nature Center here in Red Lodge.
Karen,
Absolutely gorgeous indeed! Thank you for coming by to admire him.
Cheryl,
You are welcome! Thank you for sharing your story and recollection of the peacock, peahen and of the birds your uncle raised. The male birds are blessed in nature compared to the females when it comes to the color of their feathers. There is no bigger disparity when it comes to the color of the feathers then between the peacock and the peahen and I share your feeling with regards to the peahen. I am so happy you stopped by this post and got to see Peabody. A birdie told me you had a soft spot for peacocks! :)
The peacocks at the San Diego Zoo are probably my second favorite bird, behind the flamings. I got pictures of a hatchling and a year-old juvenile recently. They're in one of my two blogs somewhere.
Russel,
Feel free to find them and post the links here to direct me towards them. Otherwise, I am sure I will get lost amongst your numerous flamingo posts looking for them. :)
How rare is it that you see a peacock's feathers? it must have been super pretty. so.. hows ur volenteering at the beartooth nature center going?
