Jay's Tuesday Free Enterprise Quote

"The growing size of government debt should be of real concern to every creditor and especially to every taxpayer with any interest whatsoever in private property and personal freedom."

Dr. Paul L. Poirot

That was said before the recent, most crushing debt in U.S. history.  More debt than was accumulated during our country's entire history, combined.  For the economy to grow out of this recent debt alone, it is calculated that it would have to grow 12% per year for 57 years.  That won't happen.  Since we know that no country can tax itself out of deficits and debt, how will it happen?  There is s simple answer to that question.  It won't.

But Dr. Poirot's relating the debt to private property and personal freedom is something that would MOST UNFORTUNATELY be understood by very few.

Some how under Clinton we had a balanced budget. T%hat all got away from us Under Bush and continues to move more and more away from us. It is a concern . But I think we can get back on track and it shouldn't take 57 years

Interesting post Jay. These seem to be some unnerving times we are living in.

Charlie - interestingly Dr. Poirot's comment came after Clinton offered his first budget, which almost tripled the debt at that time.  It was rejected 100-0 by the Senate.  You will have to go back to see what balanced the budget!  Guess who it wasn't!?

And unnerving for some time to come Dan.

Balanced budget or not , the goverment will always spend up to or mre than we give them

Did I say give, take and take

Until the system is fixed the budget will never be nor will our personal freedoms.

We are free to the limits we are allowed

just saying

enjoy the day

Russell - like the Chinese said to Geithner, when they laughed him out of their meeting, the mathematics don't add up!

Melissa - ponder away!  And continue to...

Don - I agree with that.  We really are the people after all, and must learn to demand that we are listened to and not ignored.

Wallace - then you will like my other post today as well!

Perhaps Obama can tax all 57 states and balance the budget that he quadrupled since taking office.

Jay,

Good quote. Authorizing and spending one more dime by Congress will only worsen the problem. :)
