Rafter Foam Insulation: a no no or possiblities!

Attic Spray Foam Insulation

The above photograph shows an attic that has spray foam insulation. This is great insulation if you have no gas fired appliance in the attic, or if the insulation is properly protected. At this point in time, the builder and the subcontractors have not shown any proper documentation stating that the sprayed on foam will meet code requirements stated in the International Residential Codes for One and Two family dwellings. This is considered a unsafe area. Especially because the foam insulation is a volatile igniter and major appliances are located in the attic: gas fired furnaces and water heaters.

When a recommendation to show the proper Insulation documentation is not present, a red flag should appear. No documentation over this dilemma, yet.

That looks terrible to me and I would not like to have to do any work in it. YUCK. Thanks for the picture. I would not have believed it without seeing it.
