Earthquakes Move Real Estate

Earthquakes are relevant to real estate, and what could provide a better reason for a caring real estate agent to check up on past and present clients, prospects, friends and other contacts than an earthquake in their area?  It's not something to wish on anyone, but once it occurs, it's a wonderful opportunity to care about their well-being first, and property second.

Memorable Events

There are some places where earthquakes are common and frequent, but in most places even small earthquakes are unexpected, emotion-evoking and very memorable.  I remember in vivid detail the first phone call I received following the first magnitude 5.0 earthquake I experienced, and a lot of conversations in equal detail following a magnitude 7.0 earthquake several years later.

Who Lives There?

Tuesday a small magnitude 3.4 earthquake struck right in an area where I have quite a few past and present clients.  I thought "Who lives there?"  The answer to that question became my high priority contact list for the day.  Everyone and their property was fine, and some of them had some cool stories to tell.  Some, or maybe all will remember I cared, and I will remember the pictures they painted with the descriptive stories they told about what they were doing and how they reacted when the earthquake struck.

Our last earthquake was on Easter.  I have lived all my life in Calif. and I have felt many earthquakes and never have they caused me any fear.

Great idea, David. Hard to imaging I could call eveyone I've worked with in Seattle over the past 25 years, but I could get to a few. I hope the cell towers are still functionig when we have the next shaker.
