How the term
for something new got hammered out, shaped, run up the flagpole, thrown against the wall and it stuck. Who actually defined the process of spending time on line, "surfing" any way?
In college in the fraternity I was in, on Friday night after a long week of classes, our cook was gone and we were on our own to grill up "gers". Some with cheese, some loaded with what else we wanted on them. Not burgers, cheeseburgers...gers. We drank "bug juice", not gaterade, punch or hi c, bug juice. Or we might head down to Pats Pizza for some "za's". Shortening up the real word that labeled something or inventing new ways of saying the same thing. To be creative, to avoid boredom I guess. Or to entertain. But as the terms were crafted, used, they stuck.
So back to surfing. The internet being like waves that pump up and down. When you throw in a search term like "cheap maine land for sale" as a property buyer, is the result like what the surf brings in? Or like riding a wave of information and some searches are bigger kahunas then others? Any searches wipe outs, you come up empty handed or wasting amazing amounts of time to find a site, blog post, video or podcast worth listening, gleaning, er "surfing?"
