Beaufort, SC, Real Estate, MCAS BeaufortThe Beaufort Gazette reported that 5 Joint Strike Fighter squadrons, which could arrive in Beaufort in 2014-15, would bring up to 4000 construction jobs. Even better news is that hiring would begin later this year.

Citing a report released by the Navy on Wednesday, the Gazette reported that each of the five squadrons will have an economic impact of $30 million to $35 million

Conventional wisdom is that the Joint Strike Fighter force solidifies the future of MCAS Beaufort, should the federal government re-visit the idea of base closures in the future.

The new squadrons will create more "sounds of freedom" for local residents, as the number of annual takeoffs will increase from 55,000 to 99,880, according to the  Gazette. MCAS Beaufort receives less than 20 noise complaints a year, according to the Gazette article.

MCAS Beaufort officials have planned a June 22 meeting at the Holiday Inn Beaufort to give residents an opportunity to ask questions about the possibility of the squadrons coming to Beaufort.

Anyone who has lived in Beaufort for any amount of time knows how important the military is to the fabric of our community. The economic benefits are obvious, but just as important is the presence of these thousands of men and women who serve our country. It is just plain good to have them around.
