Mini Blinds Warning

God's Newest Angel

Years ago there was a huge effort to make people aware of the dangers of mini blinds and their cords.

Last week, Ben was put down for a nap. He climbed out of his crib and got tangled in the mini blinds. He was found by his father, who started CPR. Ben was not breathing.

Below is a picture of Ben....22 months old. He is welcoming his brand new sister home. A few nights ago, Ben's family had to make the hardest decission of their lives. They had to let him go.....he was not to recover from a very avoidable accident.

Putting the cords over the blinds is (was, in their case) not enough.  Tragically, a child dies every two weeks and with just 15 minutes of your time you can make a real difference in protecting your child.

FREE retrofit kits are available from the Window Covering Safety Council for older window blinds which are especially dangerous strangulation hazards.  But even newer window coverings have inherent dangers and the U.S. Consumer Safety Council has announced recalls of new coverings.

So please, if you have small children in your home, make sure that you take steps to implement some important corrections due to this mini blinds warning!

Tragedy.  Avoidable.  A nightmare for the parents.

On a semi related topic...for pet lovers: Remove your pets collars when they are in the house.  They can and do get caught on things and can cause the pet serious injury or death.  My brother's Chow caught his collar on a knob on a piece of furniture and was strangling.  Fortunately, my brother was home and able to release him.
