One of the ways for me to "keep it together" and live a more balanced life is running in the woods. Between the everyday nuances of having a child, a home, and business as a Realtor, running in nature helps me put it all in perspective. Living in Croton on Hudson for the past 9 years has given me the opportunity to go off road, whether running or biking. When I lived in NYC, and having passion for these sports(as well as inline skating) it was easily fulfilled in Central Park, where I lived near and became a backyard of sorts (I actually became quite a skilled rider on blades or biking through Manhattan from the wee hours to rush hour, talk about adrenaline! )
I still do bike and skate but those adventures take a bit more time, and when I can I squeeze them in between everything else, it's a gift indeed. For me, running for 30 or 45 minutes in nature is the best natural high to start the day with. Sometimes it feels almost spiritual, it's always uplifting no matter what mood I start out; it's an absolutely in the moment, meditative, motion driven way for me to feel completely whole. Hey, and it is way cheaper than therapy! J
A big part of our decision in moving to Croton was the natural environment, and not a day goes by where I say to myself...I love where I live! It was intuitive and instantaneous when i came up upon Croton in my search for a beautiful place to live but not too far from NYC. I run in the woods, I blade by the river, I bike on and around the dam, and hike in the woods finding all sorts of treasures. I sit in my garden and love the varying colors of green with the backdrop of a harmony of blues. It's simply awesome and beautiful.
Croton on Hudson is a wonderful place to hike, bike, walk and live; with the Riverwalk completed here in Croton it adds another continuous 3 miles to the Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail System. Did you know the plan is to have 47 miles of connecting riverfront towns and villages? Be sure I will be traveling in some way along the trail!
