A Wordpress Plugin To Import Your ActiveRain Posts

In case you missed it yesterday Jeff Turner posted their new plugin to import your AR posts to your wordpress blog.

Thanks Jeff & Steve!  You both deserve a big thank you and BRAVO!

A few weeks ago, ActiveRain released a new feature that allowed members to export an archive of their individual blog posts. In the announcement, Brad said, "It's open nature will allow for the development of third-party import tools."

So, I sent the link to my partner, Steve Zehngut, and we put "create a Wordpress Plugin to import ActiveRain posts" on our to do list. Today we tested it and are ready to release it into the wild. You should be aware that the ActiveRain export does not include categories, tags or comments. So, our plugin imports the posts and gives them a category of "Active Rain" in your Wordpress blog. This will make them easy to find. If you're importing your posts into an existing blog, I would import them as draft. The video below will illustrate.

Visit this page to download the Wordpress Plugin to Import ActiveRain Blog Posts.

Let us know if you have any problems with it.

Just as a side note their great tool doesn't work for .com accounts - only self hosted.  But wow - what a terrific tool!!

Hope it works well for you Mark!  Keep us posted as to how it went and if you have any suggestions after going through the process...

I agree Eleanor!  Sounds like a very useful tool...  Your lucky you have your self hosted WP blog set up!

Hi Pam - I guess I am not sure why everyone thinks this is so great? Why would you really want to have all your content from AR at a blog that you own? I can see if you have made some exceptional posts you may want them at your wordpress site but all of them - NO WAY!! In fact you would be much better off creating a new post and just expounding on the topic of the original. It seems this is just the heard mentality to me but what do I know - LOL

Bill I wondered about this and actually if you had your posts on all of your sites.  Thanks for the info.

Very interesting. I wondered if having all our AR post go to WP and Posterous was a benefit or not?

Pam I do not but like I said there are a few that are duplicates. I would much rather do it in reverse...write a great blog at MY OWN site and then maybe put it on AR with a link back to the original. That is good SEO driving traffic and link juice back to the originating source.

thanks for reblogging this.  I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

The right Charlotte REALTOR!

Hi Pam!  I hate that I missed this originally--I think this feature will allow me to move some of my timeless posts into my WP blog and gives me the ability for "re-write" them (tweak and make additions/changes).  I would likely do what Jeff Turner suggested and bring them over in draft mode so that I've got the basics of the 'new' posts there in WP and then begin to tweak them one-by-one, day-by-day.  Like Bill said, the backlinks will also allow for some improved SEO which, I think, is the reason that many are thrilled with this capability--rather than cutting and pasting our old AR posts into WP--that takes me too long!

Thanks for sharing / re-blogging this, Pam!  Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day...
