If you find yourself with a free evening between now and June 20th (2010), head over to the WaterTower Theatre at 15650 Addison Road, Addison TX for a real treat.
Black Pearl Sings! is a live theater performance of a Frank Higgins play, directed by Terry Martin, featuring two powerful performances by Diana Sheehan and Liz Mikel. These women can sing! I attended last night's performance and am still thinking about the play.
Set in the mid 1930s, the play's only characters are Susannah Mullally, a Library of Congress employee who travels the country recording lost traditional songs and Alberta "Pearl" Johnson, an inmate in an east Texas prison. Black Pearl Sings! is the powerful and wryly funny story of these two women from radically different backgrounds and the music that unites them.
Performances are Wednesdays & Thursdays at 7:30 pm; Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 pm; and Sundays at 2:00 pm. For reservations, contact the box office at 972-450-6232.
