Today is Saturday, May 29, 2010. A beautiful day for the Harleysville Country Fair Days parade. Every year, the parade is a local tradition on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. What a great way to both honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, and start the weekend that starts our summer.
My broker, Scott Kelley, is a great guy. Every year he organizes an open house at our office, offering the parade-going public free hot dogs, drinks, and a moon bounce and other goodies for the kids. Plus, we have a premier spot on Harleysville's Main Street to watch the parade! I enjoy working with the other agents in my office to help make this a fun event for the people in our community.
Harleysville is in the heart of central Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. While it is only a 45 minute drive to center city Philadelphia, Harleysville and the surrounding Indian Valley area retain its rural charm. There's nothing like getting to see a good, old-fashioned small town holiday parade! Great schools, beautiful countryside - this area is a perfect place to live.
The annual parade showcases the talents of the Souderton High School Big Red Marching Band, local martial arts schools, theater groups and more. There are always plenty of antique army vehicles to honor our military. You can always see beautiful classic cars and wonderful historic farm tractors. There are always plenty of horses, with the precision riding skills of the mounted State Police being a highlight every year. The display of hardware from our local fire, ambulance and rescue companies is a crowd favorite. And, of course, all of the people marching in the parade and riding on floats toss candy to the crowd. The kids love it!
So on this fine holiday weekend, kick back, take a few minutes and watch the video below that will show you how our small-town parade is a big-time event for Harleysville and the surrounding Indian Valley and North Penn areas!
