The New Year has arrived and summer is approaching quickly, raising the question in many interior designers’ and real estate stagers’ minds: What is the most current color trend of the year?

Color is a universal language that has a tremendous influence on us visually and emotionally. Not only is it a powerful element that can enhance our décor and style, but can also modify the shape and size of a room, emphasizing an architectural detail or dramatize the mood and atmosphere of a given space.

Pantone’s color palette and imagery-provoking names was a strong favorite of mine for this year. Color schemes such as Greenmarket, Resourceful, Transformations, Ambiance, Gatherings, Galaxy, High Definition and Pastiche are particularly beautiful. An additional palette of Tinged Neutrals is also a contributing trend and wonderful base as always.

Home Décor color trends for 2010 vary from bold to soft, from tomato puree to pink champagne, soft to aurora yellow, spiced orange to fusion coral, violet to plum, soft turquoise to Amparo blue, dried herbs to golden glow, white, gray to black, touch of gold, silver and copper, Tuscany to rich browns are all in trend this year.

While ranging vastly across the spectrum, these colors are beautiful and provide a variety of styles that can be easily implemented in any environment. Whether it’s introducing a fresh hue to a new vignette or staging project, incorporating it within key accessories such as pillows, candles, or tassels has the potential to convey an innovative ambience. Typically with stagers, painting a home owner’s walls may not always be an option.

So, rather than dwelling on the negative points of a room that cannot be altered, enhance them by infusing some of these in-vogue colors following suit with paintings/wall art, curtain fabrics, and fruit displays.

Pantone LLC, the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, announced PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, an inviting, luminous hue, as the color of the year for 2010.

Thanks Rima! Add value with color. White does not help a house sell. Pale neutrals--a touch of color--play up the architecture of the room and definitely entice buyers. So why won't every seller paint???? It is maddening. I'd like my sellers to go even further: paint with low VOC (volatile organic compounts give off that toxic!!! just- painted smell). Every paint manufacturer now offers low or no VOC paints in just about every color choice. Then I can put a sign in the house to tell buyers that!

Great photos Rima! I just had a client with a vibrant kitchen. I had them tone it down by bringing in the wall colour from the rest of the house onto 3 walls. This left the vibrant color on the back splash and one wall of the eating area. it was very effective.

As most will agree I am all about color...love love love the green and black. I know that in staging you cannot use these bright colors on all the walls but an accent wall or just using them in accessories makes me so happy !!!

Great information.  I just love the sentence "So, rather than dwelling on the negative points of a room that cannot be altered, enhance them by infusing some of these in-vogue colors following suit with paintings/wall art, curtain fabrics, and fruit displays." I find it amazing what a little color enhance can do to totally change the feel of a room!
