Gratitude on Memorial Day

American Flag Cemetery Before running out to join family and friends at barbecues or going to the mall to check out the sales ... take a few minutes and think about how proud we should be to be Americans and to honor those who served and those who serve today so we could live in this wonderful country.

Those of you who came to know George know that he immigrated to the United States from communist Czechoslovakia. And it wasn't easy - yet he was determined and finally achieved his dream.

When someone (after hearing his accent) would ask George, "Where are you from?" ... He would fill up with pride and answer "America!"

A couple of days ago I received an email from my cousin (a former Marine) and I wanted to share it with all of you. Since I didn't know how to add all the graphics, I just copied and pasted it for you.

George would heartily agree with this message ...

Soldier with American Flag It is the VETERAN, not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the VETERAN who salutes the Flag.

It is the VETERAN who serves under the Flag.

We can be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve.

God Bless them all!

So, let's say thank you to all the Veterans of past wars - and to all those who sacrificed THEIR lives so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today.

Enjoy your holiday,

What A WONDERFUL  post about Memorial Day!   So true, and I hope all of us take the time to enjoy the benefits and lifestyle we have because of the men and women of our armed forces who have preserved it for us to enjoy

That is a great message, I appreciate you sharing it. Having two veterans in my family, one that served at the start of the Gulf War, I have really gained deep personal respect and gratitude for your service members. Hopefully everyone will take some time to honor them on Memorial Day. Have a great weekend, thanks.

I, too, hope everyone takes a minute to honor those who risk their lives for our freedom.

Last night I went to a beautiful outdoor ballet performance and the MC announced there would be a ceremony this morning to honor all of our veterans.  Everyone in the audience stood up and cheered.  It was a great feeling and made me so proud.

Enjoy the day.

That is why I loved George! He came to America and he embraced it, America became his home country, not just the place he lived. I wish more people that came to America could try to treat America the way George did. Our military fought and many gave their lives to make this country great. People come here because they want what America has to offer, so why would anyone want to change it to what they came from. If you liked what you came from, then go back, don't change our country.

Todd, you hit the nail right on the head.  That's exactly what George used to say - if you don't like it here, go back where you came from.  He loved this country.  When he finally achieved his dream - living in America - he wanted to be as American as he could and adopted all the American holidays and traditions.  Now they all want US to adopt THEIR customs and holidays.  I think there's something wrong with that picture.

Anyway, hope you had a good holiday weekend.  Talk soon.
