Exporting Your Blog Posts... Make sure you work back to front using the WP bulk tool.

So here I am sitting in my PJs on the futon wondering why I assumed WordPress would automatically recognize the original time stamps of my exports and arrange my blog posts by date if I selected them in batches of 15 to do a bulk edit from draft to publish on CarolynTannStarr.com...

Big mistake (LOL). They are completely out of order...

I have approximately 264 (out of 962 available posts in draft) dated for May 31, 2010 (LMAO). You may find yourself reading about Thanksgiving and Christmas 2009 where the Summer of 2010 should be. My response? Destroy the menu, drop the pages, leave home up with the imported posts out of order and worry about importing more material tomorrow to make Winter go away (LOL). This is what I get for playing live, eh? Still building the site so it may get even more interesting as my coding errors grow (LOL). CSS is a beautiful thing if  you pay attention.

Made a banner for it and I will be high-jacking Jessica and two more Club Chaos writers to populate that puppy. I need to go find some widgets to make life interesting for us while I figure out how to cross link all of our blogs back and forth while avoiding RSS hell. At least the RSS feed automatically kept the posts in chronological order on the sidebar... :-)

Tomorrow I am going to go find me a Dummy Guide for WordPress. I will need one for Moodle as well. I am building a Club Chaos Boot Camp site to mirror an on-line university classroom. The Moodle site has been driving me crazy because I am prone to crashing it. Moodle actually sent me a congratulations page for discovering an error. They want me to explain how I managed to uncover a bug. Too bad I wasn't paying attention when I accidentally destroyed a key module regarding assigning roles to users while I was dragging and dropping programming components into place (LOL). Now I can't log back into the project or answer them. Bummer...

I like being able to write here and send a few works over there. I opened the AR export file in Notepad (since the HTML is a huge text file) and had the plugin upload my saved version of the uncompressed text zip file. The AR Plugin works fine. My user error screwed the project up. Just figured you guys would want to know about the bulk edit date issue so you can start with your oldest selections first if you use the bulk edit option.

hmm, I'd like to make an intelligent comment but am unsure what that would be.  I actually just copied and pasted one or two posts to WP...now I'm thinking if I was really smart maybe I could/should export all of them all at once. ??? No, I would only attempt such a thing if I had a person standing beside me to explain what I was doing.

Maria, click the AR Plugin link and Jeff's YouTube tutorial will walk you through it. Just make sure you save them to draft mode so you can pick and choose which ones you want. :-)

Turns out you have to click on quick edit to preserve the original date. Learned something new... :-)

C - Thanks for the valuable info.  I need to set up a Word Press blog and I will want to preserve original AR posting dates.

Some posts are not relevant anymore. That is why Jeff said to save in draft in WP, or import them into draft.

Once in draft, you can delete them in your WP blog or add them. Categories are important in WP so you could at that time add the categories to the post you Publish.

No need to buy a book, you can find the answer from our friend Google by typing in the question.

Marc, I crashed it four times and completely started from scratch. Now I have to make more pages, go back and sort my categories to create custom menus, destroy my  Moodle work to start again and create paypal buttons for the La Femme Art Wee People Project. I have not slept for two days. I need a nap. Seriously. :-)

Barb, I am having a digital S&M moment. The writing boot camp tutorials are sweet but my coding sucks (LOL). Once I get the coursework integrated I will be a very happy camper. :-)

Missy, I have been living in Google for three days. You do not want to know what I did with my Feedburner (LMAO).

Lee and Pamela, I went with BlueHost.com so I could monetize the site. Populating it with a third of my AR  material and cross linking the other platforms with my RSS feeds has my Google Alerts wigging out. I hope to drive traffic between my entire writing portfolio with it.

Michael, Google was great but sometimes the widgets I want to use have no directions for modification. I need my dashboard to capture very specific information about users.

There's something about a book that goes from A-Z that helps me wrap my head around new stuff. Sounds like you're already wrapped! LOL But if it were me and I were tackling what you are, I would probably want a reference that I could flip back and forth quickly to check different components.
