A Staging Job Close To My Heart - Introduction

By
Home Stager with Dezigner Digz

For those of you who are a Facebook Friend, you probably read a few updates from me about a property that I was going to stage.  This one hit very close to home for me as it was owned by my In-laws.

Sadly, my Father-in-law passed away almost 3 months ago.  He suffered a massive stroke last June and pulled through against all odds.  The past year was a real struggle for him, but because of his spirit, he never gave up.  No matter how many setbacks he had along the way, he just considered them "another bump in the road" and continued with his battle to become self-sufficient again (although he lost his eyesight several years ago to macular degeneration).  Might I add that once he lost his eyesight, he went on to get a hole-in-one golfing and made it into a couple of golf magazines!  He truly was an inspiration to us all.

Over the course of the next few blog posts, I'll be writing and posting pictures about the preparation of their home for sale from start to shocking outcome.  I'll also talk a bit about what it's like to be on the other side of the fence during this difficult time.  It's very different from when you are coming in as an unbiased stager with no connection to the family.

Next instalment:  The Garage Sale -

Hello, Charlene!  We're going through some of the same...getting Mom's condo ready for sale.  I'd started posting about it, but we had to put the project on hold for a while.  Ready to start up again, though!  Best wishes, Julie

touching... I'm sure you'll do an amazing job with the preparation of this family home, giving as much proper care and attention to the sensitivity of the situation as required while balancing it with what you know needs to be done.  As difficult as it is, this is a good lesson for all of us in the industry - we tell clients what to do all the time, but many have not gone through it themselves... it teaches us much!

I'm so sorry about your loss Charlene.  I had the task of cleaning out my dad's "room" several years back when he passed very suddenly and unexpectedly.  It has made me more sensitive to those who have lost a family member and have to sell.  I look forward to your additional posts!

Charlene, I'm sorry to read about your family's loss. You are right it is harder to go through the process when you are emotionally invested. You will come out a stronger person and better stager at the end.

Kathy - Thank you for your kind thoughts and prayers.  Part 1 - The Garage Sale is now posted.

Melissa - Thank you.  It certainly was something that I learned from.  I really had to put my biases and the rest of our family's biases aside, in order to do what had to be done.

Karen - Thank you.  I'm so sorry you had to go through this too. It certainly does help you to keep the sensitivity needed when dealing with clients that have gone through the same thing.

Janice - Thank you.  I really think it has taught me a thing or two and given me some more tools to use to relate to clients going through the same thing.
