Facebook has announced yet again new privacy controls for its users.  If you haven't visited the site and double checked your privacy controls maybe now would be a good time to do it.

Here is the link to their updated link on explaining all the changes.  I personally think the "additional controls" might be helpful for you to know and utilize.  Honestly, it is a housekeeping item that you really need to do pretty regularly as they change pretty frequently.

I also encourage you to change your password often.  And I have protected my account by having email notification if any computer registers into my account.  So far, I like that....

After looking over the changes a couple that I  really like are the "Control Each and Every Time You Post Feature" as well as "Control for What You Are Tagged."

Of course, for me the best policy is my personal control feature....the one that came from Mom.  The old adage, "if you don't have something nice to say don't say it."  In our current day world, Mom's advice is taking on added significance.  Once it is out there....it is really out there!

Even in a post designed here in our members only forum, it can fall into the wrong hands...and IMHO...that is just PLAIN DISGUSTING!!!!  So, I guess I am saying regardless of the platform that you use on the Internet, the user must BEWARE!

My personal opinion is that you need to sit down and analyze what you want to do on facebook.  Then you need to make sure your privacy controls conform with that plan.

We all use facebook in different ways.  Some use strictly to connect with family and friends.  I personally have been able to keep in touch with some of my family spread over the map.

Some use it not only to keep connections with family and friends, but also client contacts.  For me, it is provided an excellent way to keep in touch with my clients.  Not in a spammy way ever!  But I stay in touch with them and their lives in their homes I have helped them buy or maybe sell.  It keeps me connected with them, which of course, is a great avenue to referrals.  For example, I have clients posting pictures of their new home and the before and after pictures.  I love seeing them make that house a home.  Others come over just to let me know how happy they are after they have their housewarming party!  That gives me a great feeling...and a great way to continue to build that relationship we now have.

I also have what they used to call a fanpage...now a like page.  Mine is set to default to a welcome page for those not logged in with the ability to come my web page.  This is where I keep the business part of my world.

Yes, real estate is a part of my life, so it does end up on my personal page as well, but with a different "feel."  I have now tried to keep my personal page a bit more of a reflection of "who I am". Real estate is a part of that, so it is there.  But there is more to me than that...and that is where I am learning to develop that part of my facebook page.

I would love to hear any thoughts you might have as well....this forum is for US to learn how to better utilize facebook.  This is a medium that is changing rapidly and we all need to learn and share what we can....SO.... If you have something to share that would be helpful...PLEASE DO!

I would also like to thank all the members who joined the new group "facebook fanatics."  If you would like to JOIN we would love to have you!
