We have been going more non-smoking here. The restaurants went that way a few years ago and other public spaces long before that.

That's interesting Ashley.  I guess the business owners are concerned with that crowd that come in to sit and socialize for a while and they think if they cannot smoke they will not be as willing to sit and stay.  I think if ALL of the restaurants are non-smoking then how can it affect you.  If they want to eat, they will stay.

Las Vegas has gone non-smoking too, except for the LARGE casinos (do I smell politics here?) .... anywhere food is served is off limits to smokers.  It is so nice to be able to eat a dinner out and not be next to, or have to pas through a, smoke screen.

Mary I had no idea that Las Vegas was non-smoking.  WOW!  Sounds like we are just a tad bit behind here!  I agree something smells a little fishy about the large casinos still allowing smoking.

Good morning Kimberly,

Looks like this is happening everywhere. In So-Cal we've been that way in restaurants for quite some time now. We also had the same opposition from restaurant owners, but it hasn't seemed to hurt a bit. Most of them stand in one area (maybe a few chairs) in a corner outside of the building, that's been it.

Last year we had a couple of beach cities which banned smoking on the beach. Early this a.m. I just heard on the news that L.A. has now banned smoking in the city parks. And so it goes.

Hi Lynda,

I had no idea the number of cities that were already doing this.  I wonder if that was a part of the arguments in favor of banning smoking.  This is all very interesting.  I am going to keep my eye on it to see how it turns out.  If approved, it is supposed to start October 1.
