How important is a .COM address?

Real Estate Agent with Five Star Real Estate

If you didn't get your internet address when the internet hit big are you SOL?  Looking for an internet address that isn't too long, too difficult to remember, and is a .com is more than difficult these days .  On top of that try having a common name.  It is almost impossible to get a good address.

So the question stands...  How important is it to have a .com address?  Is a .info or .net  just as good?  I would be very interested to hear from those of you that have experienced this frustration.  I would be more interested in hearing what kind of traffic people get that have a .info, etc. address.

Thanks all for the feedback....I will report my findings.

Tracy I have always felt it didn't matter that much. You are going to have to promote your domain no matter what it is. Without proper promotion, people won't find your address whether it's a .com, or .net, or .org, or whatever.

Tracy, while I have purchased .net and .org domains, I seldom use them and if I do, they are relegated to "pointers"  to the dot com.  I personally feel is is a "dot com" world.  Even when I've read or heard the "dot org" or "dot net", it seem my fingers fly to the dot com.  I'm 100% in agreement wiht Dan insofar as the need to 'prmote your domain no matter what it is." Good luck.
