Did the first time home buyer tax credit deadline impact home sales in the area? Somewhat. Of course it did get many buyers to consider buying who may have not thought about it as seriously before. I do also believe that there is a new energy in real estate altogether and the tax credit jumped started it.

Here are the stats in the Columbus, GA area for April and May: Columbus, GA River Walk

Number of homes sold: May-153     April-135

Days on Market: May-132      April-145

New listings Taken: May-304     April-416

Total Dollar Volume Closed: May-23 mil     April-21 mil

Most home buyers chose FHA for there loan financing followed by VA, due to the proximity of Fort Benning and the base realignment (BRAC).

Hopefully the trend will continue upward and begin to steady again. Home ownership is still the American dream.

Terri,

we saw a mad rush in April and May was strong as well. None of our buyers were buying just because of the tax credit...they were just more in a hurry than they otherwise would have been. June has seen a slight drop off in calls and interest levels but the low interest rates and improving economy should keep the action moving.
