iPad for Realtors?

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Little Oak

Well I've played around with my iPad for a couple of weeks now and I love it but it's not perfect.

Pros

•·        Size/weight is perfect, 1 ½ pounds

•·        Battery life is fantastic, over 10 hours of use

•·        Screen is fantastic, 10" backlit, multi touch

•·        Gets attention (too much at times), great ice breaker at an open house or coffee shop

•·        Instant on, doesn't take several minutes to boot up like my PC

•·        Checking email is quick (including most attachments)

•·        Surfing the web is very convenient and the colors are vivid (most sites)

•·        Music from my iPod can be shared

•·        Videos and photographs are fantastic

•·        Games are blast (at least that's what my kids say)

•·        Ap Store has countless free or inexpensive downloads (mortgage calculators, etc.)

•·        Book reading is convenient, much less bulky than paper books

Cons

•·        Adobe Flash incompatibility, does not work with MLXChange

•·        Adobe PDF limited compatibility (read only), does not work with webForms

•·        Multitasking is limited, you can listen to music while you work, but can't have two windows/aps open simultaneously

•·        No USB port

•·        Kids always want to use it

So it's not perfect, certainly as a Realtor I still rely on my PC but you'll have a hard time convincing me to give it up.

Looking to get one in a few weeks. I'm sure you get lots of comments. I live in one of the most wired cities in the country, and I've only seen one outside of captivity.

CASECROWN makes a good / cheap case with a couple of inside pockets for business cards, $30 on Amazon (Leather?).  Enjoy.

Thanks for the post. I have been wondering the pros and cons and how it would be useful in real estate. May need to invest in one...soon :-)

It would also be great for listing presentations. What an impressive way to show potential clients your past listings, especially if you have videos of your listings on YouTube.

Hi Paul, thanks for the information, it sounds like if you can keep it away from the kids it's a good thing!  Enjoy it :-)

I'm reading your blog on my new iPad. There are some limitations like flash and java capabilities. I love apple products but it seems like everything thati have to live and die by considering real estate software is made by and for Microsoft like my MLS, which can only be used with ie explorer. I usually find ways around it but it is a time consuming task. Hopefully one day the companies that produce the real estate software will make their products compatable across all platforms.
