handymanI apologize in advance for the recent lack of posts! Things have been extremely busy on this end, including a Memorial Day move over the weekend. From my move comes some invaluable information that will be useful to rich kids everywhere!

When you are looking for a new home (lease or buy), there are various schools of thought. Do you want a bigger space in an area that's nice, but isn't your dream location or would you prefer to have a smaller place in a prime location that needs some work? For me personally, I chose the latter. If you've read my Rich Kids Guide to Leasing, my first mantra is, "If you like it, take it". This is not a home purchase that requires a lot of thought. If you find a great deal in an amazing neighborhood, snatch it up ASAP because someone else will.

In my case, I found the perfect location and a place that had all the things that I was looking for in a new home. The problem? It needed a major overhaul to become a place I'd be happy living in. It's a prime example of the expression "having good bones". I knew it had all the qualities that I wanted and at an extraordinary price I was sure I wouldn't see again. Once I trepidatiously signed the last of the paperwork, I channeled my inner lesbian and made my way to Home Depot (unfamiliar turf for this very unhandy guy). After a little (or a lot) of paint, new inexpensive light fixtures, and a deep cleaning, it's now probably the best rental deal in the city. The best part - it cost me very little money. I'm almost scared to let the lessor see the place because I know the price will sky rocket after this year (thank God for rent control).

The moral of the story? It's amazing what some paint and lighting can do! True, but that's not it! The lesson is finding someone who is handier than yourself to help execute your vision, however "unique" it may be.  A buyer/friend of mine referred me to a handyman named Mario who did all the work for me in 2 days. By work I mean: painted four rooms, took out ancient fans with old wiring/reinstalled cool fixtures, replaced electrical outlets, and put up curtains for a price I won't even mention. Let's just say he went above and beyond to the point that I feel guilty paying him what he quoted. I don't often give referrals on my blog unless the person/work is extraordinary. This is the case with Mario. Whether you are leasing or buying, he does a phenominal job at amazing prices. His contact is: 424-222-1688 or email: ceres2769@hotmail.com. I am proud to refer him to anyone in need of basically anything around the house.

I'm back from my short blogging hiatus with a hot new listing  in Beverly Hills hitting the market on Monday and some market updates tomorrow to prepare you for weekend open house hunting!
