Living in Springfield Oregon - KayDee Hallert
This year Springfield, Oregon will celebrate 125 years as a city! A city originally built around the timber industry and the first filbert ranch, it sure has come a long way. Today you will find large corporations like Symantec, Peacehealth, Royal Caribbean, and Weyhouser with offices and manufacturing sites offering jobs and community support. Springfield is not a large city (with approx. 58,000 citizens) and it's somewhere I call home.
Almost 6 years ago my husband and I decided that Los Angeles really wasn't the best place for us to raise our two young boys and headed home to Eugene. When we were in the market to buy a house, we looked all around Eugene and Springfield and found that homes in Springfield, were a better value. For the same price we could get more square feet, a newer age of home, a decent lot size and lower taxes.
We currently live in the Douglas Gardens area and love it. My boys can ride their bikes around the neighborhood, take a walk to the park, play in the field at the school and torment the dogs behind our neighbor's fence. It's quiet for the most part and we are tucked back away from busy traffic and commercial areas. There are two city parks, the Regional Sports Center and a Wetlands area all within walking distance.
On a sunny day, you can take a trip down Jasper Road and have access to the Willamette River at Clearwater Park and Landing, or you can travel over to Hayden Bridge and have access to the McKenzie River. That's right, Springfield has two rivers. Most cities can only afford one.
So when you are thinking about moving to Oregon and the Eugene area, remember that Springfield has nice areas, a good sense of community and me. I enjoy living in Springfield. KayDee Hallert
