A Mid-Life Crisis at 33. All because of Active-Rain.

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Auto & Home & Life Insurance throughout North Carolina

Being one of the first contributors on this particular forum has been the proverbial blessing and curse.  The latter is because I no longer do Mortgage Financing for a living.  I'm no longer actively involved in Real Estate.  The former is because of a few factors:

  • I found my muse and her name is Alan May Jennifer Monroe, right here on Active Rain.
  • I rekindled my love for writing, learning, and debating from many folks more wise and experienced than yours truly.
  • I learned a hell of a lot about Real Estate, before, on, and after the job was done.

Today I spent some time perusing some of my initial posts and comments.  I also took some time to read some of the uncircumcised posts from my favorite authors bloggers here on AR.  While I couldn't be happier with my current gig as head "Wax Man" at Lance's Auto Wash, part of me wonders what could have been ...

In actuality, I pretty much love this place.  In a way, many ways, I kind of grew up here.  With every hint of drama concerning Featured Posts, Political Rhetoric, Copyright Infringement, and Gaming the System, there was always a delicate balance of unabashed Professionalism.  I won't sit here slumped and pretend I have a lot of friends from this forum ... cause I don't.  Many of the folks I've met here I wouldn't refer my former heroin dealer to.  (Of note, Mom ... if you are reading ... that was a joke.  I haven't done heroin since that incident with Dad in Little League back in '86)

But I've captured the difference from what is an online presence and a real world disappointment.  There is no better avenue to lie, embellish, cheat, and even steal than the Internet.  I've saw and experienced plenty of it.  Jeff Turner still owes me money for shaving his skull:)  I kid Turner.  Never met the chap, yet have heard nothing but wonderful reviews.

And then there are the success stories, the people I'd trust with Turner's Razor at my throat.  Erica Ramus is one of those people.  Alan May is one of those people.  Bill Archambault is one of those people.  And dare I say, the brainchild that is the AR staff ... is many of those people.   I don't always agree, yet therein lies an opportunity to learn ... or unlearn, and grow.

Throw away the violins for a moment upon reading what my issue is.  And that issue is, do I keep involved even though I'm no longer directly involved in Real Estate?

Yup.

Because the Rain needs me just as much as I need it.   I'm now the consumer that knows and who has been educated.

I'll stick around because I can't help it.

Yours Truly,

Sardi

~Said info above is for Entertainment Purposes Only and has no bearing on actual Real-Life encounters with said "Professionals".  Though Ramus, May, & Archambault seem more than competent at what they do.  If you've got a shell, here's my nut ... don't always believe what you read.  Believe what is done.~

Cameron - Just had to get it out of the way, amigo.  And do you want the Pilsner or Light Beer?

Erica - Miss you too.  I hate not being able to be there in that regard.   Long story short, the Company that I had to deal with after the one I worked for previously went out of business was a ClusterF$$%.  And while I could deal with not getting paid on time, I couldn't continually put up with not having simple questions answered.   Call me if ya want anyhow, as I still stay abreast of information concerning Mortgage Financing.  And I meant every word about trusting you with that razor ... even my blood doesn't go with that blouse;)

So Sardi, watcha really doing besides Wax Man, or are you in that between jobs state? I always wanted to be a beach bum in Florida so if you need a surfboard mate on the sand give me a call. To find Jennifer had to make this gig well worth it as a min. Stay in touch and keep writing....

Woltal - I've been doing my current gig since the 4th of Jan, just haven't made much mention of it.  I don't surf but I'll give you a call anyhow.  Jennifer was worth every word and every sentence and every dime I put in.

Heindel - Touche.  Here's a snack in the interim:)

I don't know you at all Sardi, just read some comments on a couple posts recently.  I enjoyed the chaos and now that I found you and your humor I'd miss you.  Keep us roaring or fuming, as the case would be.  It's like a family reunion! Only without the food...

Jason, you have been a joy to follow and get to know. So glad you are still sticking around.

What I want to know is why when I click the LIKE button it shows up as Bob Stewart or Christa soon to be Stewart.

Weird huh? Been happening to me all night.

I haven't been around much lately either. I know the feeling well of wondering if this business is worth it.

Does that mean you and Jenifer are coming back to Portland soon? Even if for a visit that would be awesome to see her again and meet you!

Jason:  Just a thought, here.  I am wondering, since you seem to be the entrepreneurial type... whatever that means... that perhaps Portland in particular, and Oregon/Washington in general... just might be the better place to do a "start-up."

I do not know what you have in mind... but with your attitude, and Jennifer's "following" and "sphere" in Oregon... that just might be the place to begin your "Second Empire."  Have you given any thought to something like that ?

Trading the Pennsylvania snow for the Portland Rain might be a good trade.  And, I am sure Miss Jennifer would be happy to lend you one of her umbrellas.  :)

Evelyn - Thanks!  It's been awhile since I got folks fuming:)

Missy - I noticed that.  Didn't think your daughter read me here on AR.  It is peculiar.  I'd watch that soon to be son-in-law of yours;)

Brigita - Nope, I've been around.  Thanks for the kind words though.

Tim -  Appreciated, my man.

Karen - It can be frustrating, like any line of work.  Hang in there.

Todd - I want to come out and visit sooner rather than later.  That and Jennifer has some folks she really misses as well.  You will be one of the first to know when we make it out that way.

Karen Anne - Good idea but I think we are sitting tight here for now.  I love my new job and MJ loves it thus far as well.  But in life, the only thing for sure is nothing is for sure.

Hi Jason!  You have been such an inspiration to many here in the Rain and I can't tell you how glad I am that you're staying--despite that midlife crisis!  Your writing is so unique and always garners good comments (well, most of them) and great debates sometimes too!  Thanks for sharing so much of yourself here--it's been a pleasure getting to know you through your prose and glad you're back for more!

Enjoy your weekend...

Hey Jason,

I haven't been around AR for a long time.  Too much whining to go there, but you and Jen were two of my favorites.  The last time I was around Jen was driving across country to be with you and wow, look you two are hitched.  Good for you.  The real estate industry is a weird industry and if you are no longer working in that industry that ain't all bad.  I have my days, believe me but I don't know how to do anything else so I march on.

Anyway, saw your post and thought I would stop by and say hi.  I hope your writing turns into something big for you, I am sure it will.   Keep in touch on Facebook if you get a chance.   Hope all is well for both of you!

Audrey - Boy do I know what you mean about the whining.  Sometimes I wonder if the average mental age is twenty years the junior of the physical age around here.  We'll keep in touch and perhaps actual meet someday soon.  Take care and keep in touch!
