Real Estate is Kinda Like Fishin'

By

The right bait for a real estate sale

I like to fish and I like real estate so the thought occurred to me the other day, that real estate is kinda like fishin'. Both activites have some things in common, I think you will agree.

  • You have to go where the fish are...you have to connect with the consumer
  • You have to have a good tackle box...you have to have a good box of skills
  • If you don't go fishin'... no fish.....If you don't work you won't sell homes/get listings/make money
  • When fishing your buddy may be slaying them, you can't buy a bite.. Sound like real estate?
  • When fishing you might be slaying them and then they "just quit"...real estate?
  • It's exciting when you are busy and having fun...Ditto for real estate
  • You have to know where the action is on the water, same thing for the real estate market
  • Not everything is a keeper, same with clients and listings
  • Fishin' is fun but you have to have a license, same with real estate
  • When you are fishing sometimes you get a snag or tangled up in something, same with real estate
  • What worked yesterday in the water may not work today, same thing with our profession
  • Sometimes you have to be patient when fishing...Ditto with real estate
  • Sometimes you get skunked, no bites...Same with real estate
  • Sometimes scouting pays off later, sometimes real estate work takes time to produce results too
  • Sometimes there are too many fishermen on the water, same thing with real estate agents
  • Sometimes the water gets choppy, sometimes the market gets tough
  • Fishin' beats working, but sometimes real estate beats you
I like fishing and I like real estate....think I'll keep doing both!

Nice Post and very encouraging. Every day there are potential buyers and sellers, if we stay focused on real estate, they will be there. Latch on to them there fish, and let them know you are there and ready for them, without being a pest of course, but in a gentle way, let them know you was thinking about them. Also, inventory is the key, you always need new fresh listings, keeping your "car lot" full. Buyers will come from your inventory calls. Good luck, and rejoice daily. It's a great day to be alive and it's full of opportunities, a great day to fish.

Hi Homer,

As we were discussing earlier - in real estate as in fishing, once you get them on the hook you have play the line just right in order to reel them in. Especially if you're using barbless!

I enjoy my part in all this when it comes to real estate - helping prepare the bait. But, don't think I'd be too good at tying flies or cooking up that smelly stuff my kid uses on his fishin' hooks.

Great post!

I'm not a fisherman so it's difficult for me to relate to the analoy. I don't have the patienct to fish, although I understand those that do.
