Kudos to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana

 

Yesterday, while spending a few hours volunteering at a beach cleanup in Cameron, the parish to the immediate South of  Calcasieu Parish, I was quite impressed with the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana. (CRCL) In fact, I was so impressed that today I visited their website, officially joined,  and registered to receive their e-newsletter. This is not the first time CRCL has spent time in Cameron Parish.

• In July, 2009, CRCL coordinated the efforts of 80 volunteers in a 3 day Beach Restoration effort that will help to stabilize and capture sand to help control erosion, create wildlife habitat, benefit coastal species, and stabilize coastal soil.
• In September, 2009, volunteers again showed up to assist CRCL in another effort. This time, over 50 volunteers  planted approximately 5,000 plants along the Cameron Parish shoreline.

Whether you are one of the 2/3rds of Louisiana's population who live in Coastal Louisiana or not, please consider joining the CRCL effort. At the very least, stay informed by subscribing to their e-newsletter.

Yesterday's effort was a joint effort of The Gulf Response Involvement Team (GRIT). The goal is to clean up the beach in advance of oil in order to make the oil removal effort easier. GRIT is made up of the following groups that are working together to combat the BP Oil Spill:

• National Wildlife Federation
• Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program
• Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana
