                                                                Portland's view of the moon

So, before school gets under way, I thought it may be nice to get a few ideas out to all of us parental types.  Ideas - hopefully a few new ones - of fun places to go as a family.  Whether you can go for a few hours or an entire day trip, it is entirely up to you!!

The Ususal Stomping Grounds ~~

OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry) -- Currently they have the "Body" exhibit.  While I am uncertain of how young is too young for this, their website gives detailed information on that portion of the museum.  I have not yet seen it personally, but I do know of many who have and who were completely impressed by it.  For ticket information, hours, and more information, visit their website at http://www.omsi.edu/, or phone them at 503.797.OMSI!

The Oregon Zoo -- Located on the West side of Portland, the zoo features the animals we love and are in awe of.  They also have seasonal opportunities available.  In the summer, there are two different types of concert series.  In the winter they have the Zoo lights.  Which are very cool to see.  Bring a lot of warm things, as it has been quite chilly the past three years.  We always take our children and my brother (who is just now 21) has gone with us for the past three years.  It is a tradition for us and an experience you will not want to miss.  For more information, the Oregon Zoo can be reached at 503.226.1561 during zoo hours.  After hours you should check their website out - http://www.oregonzoo.org/.

The Portland Beavers-- So while we are still professional ML baseball-less, we do have a minor league team that comes out every once in a while.  They are a farm team for the San Diego Padres and they play at PGE park in downtown Portland.  My family just went to a game last week and saw a WIN!  We also received free rally towels as we entered the gates.  Why not make an afternoon (or evening) of it?  We took the MAX and had a great time.  Did I mention that they won??  :-)  You can visit http://www.portlandbeavers.com/ to see the schedule & prices!

The Portland Timbers-- This is our local soccer team and from what I know, they are fairly good at what they do.  It sure is amazing to watch them use every part of their body, but their hands!  WOW!  It is also amazing to watch the guy climb the pole with a chain saw.  Well...amazing and unnerving...  This team also plays at PGE park.  In case you had not guessed it yet, their website is http://www.portlandtimbers.com/.  Check them out - they really are a fun team to watch!

                                                                                                                                                    Fire it up!

The Portland Trailblazers -- Okay, Okay...Family friendly, huh?  Yes, it is a new season.  Lets not punish the new kids on the team for past behavioral issues, alright?  Besides, it is the only professional team that Portland has of anything!  The good news is that ticket prices are lower than they used to be.  Games are still exciting to watch and we just might have a great season.  Just think...you could be there at the first game of a winning season or even a championship team!  Let's get out there and cheer them on.  New day, New season, New team = New chances.  www.nba.com/blazers is the place to go check out all of their information!  So go already...

          PDX Jax

The Portland Lumberjax -- The city of Portland fairly recently acquired a professional indoor lacrosse team!  So, admittedly, this is the one I have yet to attend.  I have heard great things about this sport and about it's up and coming-ness. (I think I just made that word up!)  I am going to try to make it a point to go and watch a game.  If you have already been to one, please let me know how you liked it!  It sure looks intense and invigorating!  I think I am going to go read up on them via their website, which is www.portlandjax.com

I will add more ideas in the weeks to come, but for mow, this is a fairly solid start of family fun!  Most of all, make certain that you are spending time together as a family.  It is so important to your children and their futures!  If you have any extra ideas, be sure to let me know and we can feature those together!  Happy family...
