Everyone is asking what is going on with BRAC and FT Meade? Well if you could get onto base you would see that there is a lot of activity going on to get ready for all the extra staff.

The headquarters complex which will house the largest new tenant to Fort Meade, the Defense Information Systems Agency, will total 1,000,000 square feet of office space in five buildings. Construction of the DISA campus began with a ground breaking ceremony in April, 2008. The project is scheduled for completion by February, 2011. The completed project will be the largest office complex in Anne Arundel County. |

In April 2009, workers broke ground for the new headquarters and production building for the Defense Media Activity. The DMA faciliteis will total 186,000 square feet in a multi-story building which will house the latest in television, radio and print media production capabilities. Occupancy is scheduled for sometime in 2011. |

Also in 2009, construction began for the Colocation of Defense/Military Department Adjudication Activities with a groundbreaking ceremony April 15. The new facility will bring together adjudication activities from three services plus other defense activities and will occupy 152,000 square feet of space in their new headquarters. |
What is this going to mean to the housing community around Ft Meade? I would guess that the prices of homes would stabalize or go up due to demand. Yes some of the personnel are from Northern Virginia and will commute. But with the price of gas, the time spent on the road and the difference in taxes make it worth their money to stay in Virginia? Time will only tell.
There are so many nice areas in Baltimore, Howard and Anne Arundel Counties to live. I drove to D.C. for over 15 years and the traffic really got to me. I was really glad when I was down sized and did not have to make that commute any more.
