Beach Sand Sculpting Contest in Long Beach June 11-13 Sponsored by Geico

Go Green Festival presents professional sand carvers who will line the beach with green-themed sculptures.

Long Beach, NY - May 26, 2010 - Geico will sponsor the Go Green Festival, a sand sculpting event, in Long Beach June 11 thru 13. Approximately ten professional sculptures from around the nation will sculpt on the beach at National Blvd. in Long Beach from June 8 through June 11, carving green-themed masterpieces just off the Long Beach boardwalk at National Blvd.

The sculpting action begins on June 8 when the artists take to the beach to begin designing their pieces in the sand. The sculptures are expected to be very large, and therefore, will be built during the week through Thursday, June 10 when they will be judged between 5PM and 7PM. Additionally, the Allegria Hotel located at National Blvd. on the boardwalk will hold a Eco-Fashion Show from 7PM to 10PM the same evening.

On Saturday, June 12 the Long Beach Public Library will present a seminar, "Living Green in Long Beach" at 12Noon. Special guest Alan Colmes, formerly of Hannity & Colmes, and a syndicated radio and television talk show host will moderate. Residents and businesses are all welcome to take part in the seminar, where several green-friendly speakers will offer information about "going green," including Long Beach Environmental Advisory Board Co-Chairman Neal Monteko.

On Sunday, sculptures will remain until 7PM when a closing ceremony will take place featuring a Mandala lesson from musician Bari Koral. (Mandala is Tibetan art that is destroyed as soon as it is finished, with elements returning to the earth.) With that in mind, children will be invited to "return" the sculptures to the sand...and most certainly will have a fun time doing so!
