You have your blog, twitter, facebook, linkedin, and website. You scour your friends for more friends on facebook and twitter, update your linkedin, and direct people to your website. Wow, now half the day is gone. There's one thing to remember as you friend people, follow people, and update your status, LOCAL.

Sure you can do loans in multiple states, or in your whole state, but what is your true area of influence? All this technology is meant for you to get in the "top of mind" status of those who can use your services, yes, but lets remember your neighborhood and the locals that can actually meet you face to face.

Your local area of influence is special, they should feel special. You can reflect your area of influence on your website, and on some of your status updates so those who are close to you feel special, and feel that your specialty is their area. I always suggest people add phrases like, "Tim Smith is your Houston Texas mortgage specialist" This not only localizes him, but when someone types "Houston mortgage company" Tim now has a better chance of showing up in that search on the search engines.

People type in local searches like "Houston mortgage company", "Houston home loan", they want to find someone local in their area online. Hence, high tech, high touch. Make your locals feel special!

Shelly, good post!

I'm all about local, yes it's nice to have contacts scattered all over the place but it's local that that makes the money!

Makes sense, why struggle reaching for the apple on top of the tree when there are some on the lower branch?
