Getting Framed #2

By
Real Estate Agent with Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty

This is second in a series on how to get frames up on a blank wall. Tired of waiting for the right image to come along? Don't get intimidated just get inspired and create your own. You'll be surprised at what you can do, and save money too!

#1 First decide on the focal point of your room, it should be your inspiration. Note its colors, patterns, shape... Decide what you like about it!

#2 Search the Internet or through your own digital photos for images to work with your inspiration. Make sure that it is legal to use the image, and check that the image size is approximately the size of what you will want to fit in the frame and a high resolution.

#3 Own It! If you have any programs to manipulate your photo, like iphoto, mtpaint or photoshop, manipulate your photo (you can also goolgle for other software options) and try new effects.

#4 Print it the size you want on high quality photo paper. Experiment with glossy or matt paper, your preference. If is is a room with sunlight, consider the paper choice as well, so it doesn't fade.

#5 Purchase Frames. Compliment your photo with the perfect frame, make sure you consider your original inspiration so it all ties together. Matt if necessary to fill the frame, and it also gives a finished look to your photo.

#6 Hang it and complete your room! A series of more than one works well to position on complementary walls.

Good tip and would be an inexpensive way to stage a house too, we want our listings to show well for those Open Houses!

Marilyn, Doing it yourself is half the fun, the other half is admiring it once its done, and knowing you did it yourself. Stage away!

Vic, I've go a whole house to decorate, I'll keep them coming!
