Sidewalks in and of themselves don't make a city walkable. Because of it's topography, San Diego is not the most walkable city I've visited. However, there are many areas of San Diego that are walkable, such as the beaches, Mission Valley, and downtown at the waterfront.

I enjoy a weekly walk along the waterfront just to see what cruise ships are in town, what war ships are docked at the Coronao Naval Air Station, and what new public art has been installed for a six-month run.

Ever since Petco Park was built downtown in East Village for the San Diego Padres in the early 2000s, there seems to be a proliferation of street performers who have taken up residence. It's beginning to remind me of New Orleans and the French Quarter, especially which I see performers/public art that looks like public art/performers:

Public art or performer?

The shine on that statue convinced me that it was a statue, but there was nothing at the base telling me what historical figure was being honored. I continued on my walk. However, just 15 minutes later when I walked back by on my way to the car, the statue had moved:

Public art or performer?

I wasn't sure yet what was going on, especially since these small computer chips can allow so many new and interesting things to be built. I walked over closer:

Public art or performer?

He caught me a little off guard, and he knew it. I wasn't expecting a sudden movement like that. I put $5 in his silver bottle that he's reaching for, smiled, and continued my walk.

If you're ever in downtown San Diego, park at the Embarcadero and get out and do a little walking. There's no telling what you'll see and enjoy.

Downtown San Diego is just a short drive, or a ride on the San Diego Trolley, from Mission Valley, which has the greatest concentration and variety of condominium homes in San Diego. Let me know if you'd like to make one of them YOURS!

I haven't noticed the street performers downtown! I will have to watch more carefully! I remember being scared by a street performer in San Francisco down at the warf. He was cleverly disguised as a BUSH and jumped out at me and almost made me wet my pants. I screamed so loud the whole street stopped to see what had just taken place. Of course then at that point everyone was laughing so hard I wanted to punch the guy in the nose. He did not get $5 from me, but a whole lot of other people sure appreciated their laugh!

Jim....Street performers and art provide a real change of pace when you take time to enjoy them.  The "real life" statue was great and gave you quite a surprise I'm sure.

Hey, everyone.

Sorry it's taken me a little while to get back to this blog post of mine. Summer's in full swing and between real estate, chamber music, and Borders, I'm working like a dog I guess you could say.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I'll be by your blogs to do some reading and commenting. Like they say, "Do unto others as they have already done unto you."

If there are any questions or comments that need specific answers or acknowledgment, I'll do that in separate comments below this one.

Again, thanks for stopping by and commenting.
