Melanoma shot announced on News

That is a crazy price -- but likely what a lot of medical solutions will be coming to - time will tell.

Sandra:  Ahh yes.  The Melanoma shot.  I've seen several articles about it, and saved them.  I have an appointment day after tomorrow with a specialist to have some spots looked at.  One thousand dollars a month is just plain obscene.  THAT... is a great example of why nationwide universal healthcare is needed.  A person should NOT have to die simply because they don't have the money to pay for it.

What the shot does is stimulate our own immune system to fight that particular cancer.  It's an incredible discovery.  Wish me luck on Thursday.  Gee... I wonder if Medicare will cover it.  That's all I have.

The price is obscene.  Poverty or lack of funds should not  be a death sentence.  With new modalities, often insurance companies don't want to pay, calling the treatment experimental.  Karen Anne, the best of luck on Thursday.  Hope your spots turn out to be nothing more than flags or some other benign issue.

Hi Sandra~  I had not realized that there was a shot for Melanoma.  I guess I am just too involved in Real Estate and have not focused on my Nursing!  That price is outrageous!

Sandra:  I had my appointment with my doctor yesterday, and there is no cancer.  I caught this very early in the game.  He removed three spots on my skin... and I'll go back for a check-up... but right now, he says "not to worry."  Yeah, right.

Sandra:  I very much appreciate your concern.  Even my own daughter has not asked.

Anyway... two weeks ago the Doc removed three spots on my skin.  Actually, he "froze" them off.  He said they were not cancerous, and that they were still superficial... just on the top layer of the skin.  He said they looked harmless... but I still asked him to remove them, which he did.

They are almost healed.  I am also on Warfarin, a blood thinner, which makes the healing of a cut or a sore take longer.  But... one is healed, the other almost, and the third spot right behind the second one... appears on the path to healing.

Sandra:  I just do not understand my dear, dear daughter.  She is 38.  When I was her age, I went over to visit my own mother and father perhaps every two weeks.  Then, it was about a twenty minute drive.  But, who cared ?  I would do whatever was needed.  Do the dishes, scrub the burns off the pans... (mother invented blackened chicken, blackened sausage, blackened fish... she could "blacken" just about anything... LOL).

And for Dad, I would rake the leaves, wash the car, do whatever he needed help with.  I thought I put forth a pretty good example, in retrospect, for my daughter.  Things are so different now.  She "has her own life."

Both my parents are gone now.  And wow... do I wish I had just one more chance... to do Mom's dishes, or rake Dad's lawn.  When my Mom was younger... she used to listen to the Arthur Godfrey show on early 1950's TV.  He had a saying that he occasionally used... that stuck with me.  "We grow too soon old, and too late smart."

I know that, with all I did for my parents, I wish now that I could have done more.  I even remember once... it must have been perhaps the late 1970's.  Mom invited us... the family... over for dinner on a Sunday.  I said I had an appointment to show homes... so I could not make it.  She said... and I know she was hurt, and probably "doing some manipulating"... but she said to me... "well, I guess business comes first."

Should she have said that ?  Who knows.  But still, now... even after 23 years after Mom died... I can still hear that ringing in my ears.  How I would just love to go back in time, cancel that showing appointment, and go over for one of her Sunday dinners.  How I wish.  Uh huh.  We grow too soon old, and too late smart.  At least I have.

Sandra:  I am sorry, but it was Janice in comment # 6 who lost her son to Melanoma.  Somehow you much have put the two of us together.  My daughtere Robin is my only child... and she is 38.  And then, there is my kitty daughter, Mollie T, who is 10.
