Hunting for Prospects - Taking the steps to get past Fear

žHunting for Prospects - Taking the steps to get past Fear.

I have been encouraging others to take a more aggressive approach to prospecting.  I call this Hunting because that is the contrast between the more passive prospecting approach of Farming.  Don't get me wrong, Farming is important and needs to be done too.  But farming can be expensive and you are giving your power to someone else to make the move towards you.

Most people won't hunt for prospects because they fear Rejection.  In order to overcome this fear you have to take steps to overcome it.

One tiny step you can take is to FOCUS ON YOUR OWN ACTIONS.

When you  focus on the other person's action or reaction you lose control of your emotions, you begin to feel helpless.

FOCUSING ON YOUR OWN ACTIONS gives you independence, confidence, control over the situation and is very motivating.

5 Ways to CHANGE YOUR FOCUS.

1.  Set a GOAL for each encounter.

2.  Have an unconditional ATTITUDE OF SERVICE.

3.  Focus on finding the NEEDS of the person and the BENEFITS you provide.

4.  SCRIPTS can get you started but find your own words.  Be GENUINE.

5.  Make this change slowly but CONSISTANTLY in order to make it permanent.

I hope you will incorporate these into your prospecting routine.  You will see positive results in your attitude and in turn your business.

HAPPY HUNTING!!!

You write "Most people won't hunt for prospects because they fear Rejection".  I think many just don't know how to "farm" and some are just lazy, can not be bothered. The real estate agents, brokers, REALTORS that got in to this industry when the sales were easy are at a disadvantage because they have to learn new tricks during harder times. Knocking on doors...canvassing neighbors and meeting folks up close and personal, not just sending them 18 dead trees worth of mailers is pretty effective. Especially if no one locally is doing that because it seems like too much work, or they are too lazy to get out of the office, push away from the desk they are pinned to a wall by.

Charmaine, thanks for the tips.  I like the idea of taking scripts and making them your own......so they become a dialogue instead.

Have a great day!
