The area bordered by Chandler Boulevard, Kyrene Road, McClintock Drive and the Santan Freeway was chosen as the best value in the Phoenix metro area by NeighborhoodScout.com. NeighborhoodScout.com is a website that provides real-estate and demographic data to homebuyers and businesses. The two-square mile area has been chosen one of "America's Best Neighborhoods for the Money".
NeighborhoodScout.com analyzed education and income levels, public school ratings, crime statistics, home prices and appreciation rates. Andrew Schiller, a geographer and creator of the website, said the neighborhoods listed weren't necessarily the least expensive areas, but they are quality neighborhoods that were good buys.
Chandler City Councilman Rick Heumann, a west Chandler resident, agreed. Heumann lives near the area selected. The area is a bit of a "hidden gem," Heumann said.
"People look toward south Chandler a lot - and there is a lot of great new stuff going on in south Chandler - but as I've preached for a while, west Chandler and north Chandler have lot of great older neighborhoods," Heumann said. "The affordability index is good. There are good schools, and being centrally located makes a big difference for people as well."
"People envision Chandler, in a lot of cases, as an expensive place to live," Heumann said. "It's not Scottsdale, but we do have some high median values in south Chandler and other places like that. This just shows that for a family starting out or middle-income people, there are a lot of great neighborhoods."
