Lost and Found: Has Anyone Seen the Family Room?

By
Home Stager with GreatStages Home Staging and Redesign

What do you do if you are in a house that is missing the Living Room, Dining Room and Family Room? If you are a buyer, you are walking out the door to a home that has the rooms you expect to find in a house rather than trying to imagine what goes where.

The sleuths at GreatStages were hired to search for the missing rooms and restore them to their proper places. The Living Room was masquerading as a TV room (and the TV was trying to hide in a cabinet facing the entry hall)

As you can see, the Dining Room was now an office, complete with filing cabinets!

Where was the Dining Room hiding you ask? Elementary, My Dear Watson - it was in the Family Room!

Now that the lost rooms were found, it was time to put everything back and add some excitement for buyers by providing some color and accessories, but the GreatStages team was up for the challenge. For less than the cost of dinner and a movie, the homeowners will now see increased marketability and higher offers since they no longer are missing rooms.

Here is a little docudrama that we filmed showing how we solved this mystery:

That is really interesting.  I have a neighbor who turned her dining room into a family room.  She thinks it works better for her that way!

Endea ~ Changing a room and repurposing it isn't a big deal if it is your home and you enjoy it that way, however, when you are selling it is important that all of the rooms be present and accounted for!

I've seen a dining room used as a home office, but only when there were both formal and informal dining areas.  Great video!

Jefferson ~ Thanks for your comments. This house only has one dining room and a breakfast bar so it is really important that they be done right. Plus, what I didn't mention previously is that there is another office in one of the bedrooms upstairs!

Janice- Thank you. That room really ended up being the best part of the home. The exciting part was that it sold in less than a week (and we have a 7.5 month supply of homes for sale in this area).
