Summer is not even here yet, and it’s blooming hot already!

Lantana in full bloom by Richard Weisser. The weather report last night was a monotonous string of temperatures in the 90’s with high humidity. That would be totally normal for July in Newnan Georgia, but it’s a bit hot for early June.

But with the hot Summer weather come the beautiful Summer blooms. I love summer flowers because they are more durable that the fragile fleeting flowers of Spring. It’s time for hydrangeas, crape myrtles, lantana and butterfly bushes to do their best to attract hummingbirds and honeybees to the yard.

Fortunately, the occasional thunderstorm that is associated with heat and humidity has kept everything green and vigorous! The downside is that it’s pretty muggy out there, which is a hard word to really describe unless you are experiencing it!

Summer in the South. You gotta love it!

Richard, oh those photos are wonderful! I for one can do without the humidity and heat, LOL. But what can you do about it.

Beautiful pictures. Love the summer colors and warm weather! But I do have an appreciation for the guy who invented the air conditioner!

As I let the dog out this morning and noticed that it was already feeling a bit muggy and warm I was thinking how much I miss the summers in the Pacific Northwest. Great pics!

Great photo's Richard as always.  I tell you what...I will take my -20 with a 30 mile an hour wind and you can have your 90 with high humidity!

I know the term muggy having lived in the south for a good number of years.  It is nice to have the afternoon thunder boomer just to knock the edge off for a little bit.  Then it is back to the heat.  Have a tall glass of iced tea and enjoy.

Richard:  Beautiful photos, as usual.  I am considering planting some colorful flowers in the front yard.  Problem with me is that if I don't plant something that springs up from a bulb, it usually doesn't last long.  I do not have a green thumb.

Hi Richard.  Nice pictures...

I have no use for heat and humidity.  Perhaps we should migrate north for the summer...

:)

Thanks for writing,

Ken

The best "summer" flowers are the ones that are just opening on all of the vegetable plants in our garden.
