Not-So-Speechless Sunday - A Pop of Color

Poppy by the Side fo the Road in Joliet, Montana - June 2010

When you have a rich soil, regular water and sunlight, you get the right ingredients for beautiful flowers.

The town of Joliet, 26 miles North of Red Lodge on Highway 212, every spring, has beautiful poppies growing by the side of the highway.  I captured this photo shortly after it rained and when the sun came up from behind the clouds.  The exact time was June 7, 2010 at 7:35pm.  I guess I was lucky as all the right ingredients were there for a beautiful photo.   :)

HAPPY SUNDAY!!!

Paul,

Thanks.  I enjoyed testing out my camera for taking close-up photos of flowers and the water droplets and the lighting at the end of the day were nice additions.

The days seem to go much better too when we smile and see others smile!   :)

Here is another photo with water droplets taken around the same time as the first photo just for you!

Hi Gerry!  Very very beautiful. I too love the way the rain drops look on the flower and the bud.  The lighting in the first one is perfect.   We have a group of poppies that bloom in the Village, I'll have to drive by and check on them soon.

Mary,

I was quite lucky to capture the perfect lighting condition (late in the day) along with the added rain drops.  It was fun to try some other features (ones I don't use often) of my camera.  Please do drive by and take photos if the poppies in the sister "red" village are also in bloom.  :)

Good morning Gerry - I don't think I've ever seen you around here at this time of morning.

The photo of the poppy is gorgeous.  I normally see poppies in the Remembrance Day format.  (For non-Canadian readers, Remembrance Day is somewhat similar in concept to the US Memorial Day, although it is held on November 11 each year.)

Morning Gerry, I LOVE poppies even the dried pods are cool. What a fabulous shot with the water droplets, it looks like I could pick it right from screen! Both of your shots are fabulous as usual Gerry :)

Good morning Marc,

It is morning now.   With two ahead in Toronto, it was still night (here) when you wrote to me (10:35pm to be exact).

I know from my Toronto years, what you are referring to when you mentioned Remembrance Day format for poppies.   The one in my post sure looks more lively and fresh.  Eh?  :)

Cyndee,

Feel free to pick them up right from the screen.  I got a few more that I can post should the first ones go missing.  :)

I am glad you stopped by and enjoyed the poppy and pod.

Jenny,

The obsession with the number 7 has ended but I did buy a lottery with lots of numbers ending in 7 to see if it was meant for luck.  I will keep you posted if win.  I bought 7 chances to win and they will be played over the next 7 days!   :)

I have not posted to Flickr but I guess I should!   Never got around to investigate (believe it or not).   I know you use it.   What is your feedback on using it.   Would you recommend using flickr.com over stockphoto.com or snapfish.com?

Jenny,

Thank you for sharing your purple flower with us.   Water droplets add such a cool effect to the photo.  Don't they?  What is the name of this flower if you don't mind me asking.

Here another poppy with water droplets taken the same day for your and other visiting this post to enjoy!  :)

So I was just scrolling through your blog, being "a moosed" at your Monday post, and enjoying a few sunrise shots when a beautiful POPPY came on the screen...I do love poppies!  Especially mountain poppies, they are so big!  I don't know if it is the altitude or just the particular type that grows here, but they are so strong, yet delicate! They are just so photogenic! =o) Beautiful shots, all of them!
