The Club at Black Rock Take a beautiful drive south from Coeur d'Alene, ID about 30 miles, and you are at the spectacular and exclusive golf course development of  The Club at Black Rock.  This world class development was designed to appeal to the high profile and wealthy elite.  It sits above Coeur d'Alene Lake surrounded by forests and breathtaking vistas.

Security is tight, with a guard station that is manned 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.  Trust me on this, sightseers will not be admitted!  There was an open house advertised in the paper today, so I took advantage of the opportunity to take a look around the development.  At the gate, I was told that the open house had been a "misprint."  It took a major effort and some fast talking to get permission to enter through the gates!

The Club at Black Rock, like other high end developments in North Idaho, has suffered from the downturn in the economy.  Most custom home sites are empty, but the vistas and views remain beautiful. The Golf Cottages, the Member Cabins and The Village appear to be full of residents and activity.  There are quite a few magnificent homes built in the section overlooking Coeur d'Alene Lake.

Although there isn't a single For Sale sign to be found in The Club at Black Rock, a quick search of the MLS turns up two Golf Cottages and eighteen customs homes currently for sale.  I noticed just one custom home currenty under construction.

UPDATE 8/18/2010: Chesrown Signs The Club at Black Rock over to the bank

The club house and the golf course were bustling with activity today - a golf tournament was underway.  I was cautioned not to enter the clubhouse, it is for members only, with members paying $125,000 for the privilege of membership.  In 2009, the Jim Engh designed golf course at The Club at Black Rock was listed as Number 27 on "The Top 100 Courses in America" by Golf Digest.  I stayed on the main roads and snapped a few photos. Enjoy the slide show!

Janna, looks like a beautiful spot and your picture are great. Thank you for sharing. Believe it or not $125,000 is a reasonable membership fee in our area. Private club golf is not a poor man's game for sure.

No matter what we hear about the economy, there is always activity at our local golf club.  The country club set doesn't seem to be hurting.  Maybe it's just not as noticeable as it is with the rest of us poorer folks, lol!

Hi Janna-

With club membership at $125,000; what is the price range of homes or cottages?

Thanks for slipping in for the beautiful photo!

Do you know the difference between a deposit and an equity membership... I have been looking at Black Rock for some time and I am positive not all of your pictures are from Black Rock.

Best,

Hi Steve, and thanks for stopping by my blog.

First of all, I can assure you that ALL the photos in this blog are indeed taken from inside the Black Rock development, by me, on my camera.  Most were taken from inside my convertable with the top down!  All of these photos were taken on June 13, 2010.

The Club at Black Rock is not an equity club, which means that the membership fee doesn't buy equity ownership in the club, but rather the right to membership there.  I believe that is what you are asking - the difference between equity membership vs. a deposit.  When and if a member sells their home in Black Rock, he or she will have that membership fee (deposit) refunded.  Or, if a member resigns, that person will get on a list where after 4 memberships are sold theirs will be refunded.  Complete terms are outlined in the membership documents when joining.

Hope that helps!

Janna

Stan

the club was ranked number 27 if I am not mistaken. How would you go about getting someone a tour of the course and the facilities?

Steve,  to make sure I had my info correct I called out to Black Rock and had a conversation with Scott Chesrown.  The information in my response above came directly from him on day I wrote the comment.  And as for my E&O insurance, I am happy to report that it is current with RISC through September and I will be renewing it soon.  Anything else I can answer for you?
