Getting Started, everyday.

It was Lao Tzu who said the journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step.  Ok, profound and simple, but what if your journey needed more than a first step?  It needed direction and purpose and some good walking shoes then you need a plan or a goal or a destination.  Getting started every morning in the right manner is the key to your victory over the walk through another 24 hours.  Tony Robbins proclaims his “hour of power” where you get up and exercise the first hour doing incantations (formerly known as affirmations) throughout the workout.  The process of getting your system physically cranked while you focus your mind on your goals is a good one.  It is so much better than waking up, groaning, wishing for a few more minutes in the safety of the bed before you drag yourself through rituals that provide you no motivation for your day.

The work of a real estate agent these days is tougher than it has ever been.  Information that used to be owned by the agent is now readily available to anyone with a computer. (In this case information does not necessarily make you smarter, but that is another blog). The industry has spawned the bastard children of reduced commissions in hopes of gathering more of the internet traffic.  In an effort to gather market share what this is really doing is taking real estate from the professional’s realm and putting the tasks into a fast food realm.  Package it up and send it out, Next> Well, that is not really the best way to approach one of the most important and costly purchases of a lifetime, is it? While it may not be easy to stay positive throughout your day, starting your morning with clear expectations and a heart that is willing to beat to the drum of your activities towards your goals is.  Get up; get out of bed knowing that today you can make a difference.  Today you can finish all the calls and have enough time to read up on some new changes in the mortgage laws.  Feel your success in the mornings and that feeling can help you through the grind of some person who has called in to demand that you show them the house you have under contract right now.  Most real estate agents start in the business loving the public and proclaiming him or her “people person”.  That phrase always cracks me up.  It is of no value whatsoever to the people you work with, really, but it does make you feeling good saying it.  Frankly, I am a ‘dog person” They don’t lie to you.

I have been absorbing another seminar this week.  Thinking into Results by Bob Proctor and Sandy Gallagher is a powerful look at what really motivates us as people.  It provides a roadmap to your thinking that will help you rise above the mundane and reach for what you really want.  Wake up in the morning with hope and energy because you have realized what it is that you’re really want and now it is just a matter of attracting that to you with your thoughts and your actions.  Make it a great day.
