There is a city just outside of Washington D.C. called Falls Church. Located in Virginia, The Little City, as it is fondly called, is a unique community. The entire city falls within a 2.2 square mile radius.  Within these boundaries, residents find parks, farmers markets, weekly concerts, parades, community events, restaurants, shops and bike trails.

bikingFor the fitness minded, the W&OD Bike Trail  runs right through the city. The trail, which extends from Shirlington to Purcellville is one of the most popular biking and running trails in the area.

The parks in Falls Church offer something  for all types of active pursuits whether your idea of fun includes a vigorous game of tennis, a competitive basketball game, a leisurely swing or a relaxing picnic. Each of the 11 parks is unique.

Berman Park, at Irving and Kent Streets, has a bike and hiking trail, picnic shelter, picnic tables, grills, and play equipment.

Big Chimneys Park located on West Annandale Road offers park benches, picnic tables, grills, and
tennisplay equipment.

Cavalier Trail Park, at the intersection of Maple Avenue and South Washington Streets, has a lighted basketball court, bike and hiking trail, park benches, picnic tables, grills, slide, swings, and tennis courts.

Cherry Hill Park, located at 312 Park Avenue, features a lighted basketball court, city kiosk, horseshoe court, park benches, picnic shelter, picnic tables, grills, play equipment, volleyball court, water fountain, and lighted tennis courts.

Crossman Park/Four Mile Run at the end of Van Buren Street has park benches, picnic tables, grills, slide, and swings.

Donald S. Frady Park, at the intersection of East Broad and Fairfax Street,  has a horseshoe court, game table, gazebo, mini-amphitheater, picnic tables, grills, play equipment, and water fountain.

Fort Taylor, located on North Roosevelt Street, is a great place to explore with city kiosk, historic trail, and park bench.

Lincoln Park, at Lincoln Avenue and Great Falls Street, is where you will find a basketball court, park benches, picnic table, grills, and play equipment.

Madison Park, located at 334 Lawton Street features a  basketball court, park benches, picnic shelter, picnic tables, grills, play equipment, and water fountain.

Roberts Park, at the intersection of Lynn Place and Randolph Street, has a basketball court, park benches, picnic shelter, picnic tables, grills, play equipment, and water fountain

West End Park, which is found at Grove Avenue and North West Street, features park benches, picnic tables, grills, and play equipment.

   
basketballThose of you who enjoy playing, or watching, tennis might like to know that you will find lighted courts at  Cavalier Trail Park, George Mason High School, and the Community Center that city residents can use for free. These courts can be reserved up to one day in advance by calling the Community Center. Unlighted courts on Cherry Street are first come, first served basis.

The city parks are found at various locations through out the city. The City Parks Map  can help you find those parks that will best suit your preferred activity.

In addition to the parks, which are available to the public, the City of Falls Church has a Community Center. The Community Center is located by the Cherry Hill Park. The Community Center offers many activities including basketball, volleyball, tennis, table tennis and a pool. The Community Center boasts a full-sized gymnasium It is also the home of both the  Senior Center and Teen Center. Rooms may be reserved at the Community Center for receptions, meetings, parties, and classes. There is a preschool
at the center for children under the age of 5.

Obviously, Falls Church residents have a wide variety of facilities available for them to pursue their

Holly, great localism post of all the parks located in and near Falls Church. I always did like that area..I lived in McLean, Arlington and Annandale and enjoyed Virginia very much.
