Which is worse, a last minute closing snafu, or wrestling with an angry cat?

What a day!  First I'm going to talk about my cat.  But I promise this post will be about real estate!

My cat, Schrodinger, got a scratch between her shoulders on Friday.  By Sunday it was infected. So, one trip to the vet, $195 and two prescriptions later we went home.  I have to put an antibiotic ointment on the wound.  Cats, liking to be clean, hate ointments.  So last night she tried scratching it off.  And re-opened the wound.

So what did the vet tell me to do?  "Try putting her in a onesie so she can't get at the wound."

Perhaps you've asked yourself, "Gee, I wonder how hard it is to get a cat that's already feeling kind of punky into a onesie."  Well, I have an answer for you.  It is no walk in the park!  But, as this picture proves, it is possible.

So, what else happened to me today?  I have a closing on Friday.  Two days away.  Piece of cake.  It's a pretty vanilla deal.  The loan officer (one whom I had never worked with - the buyer had chosen her before he started working with me) told me the loan was cleared to close.  The loan officer told the seller's agent the loan was cleared to close.  What did the bank's attorney's office tell the title company today?  The loan is not cleared to close.  In fact, it never had been.  And there was no way to close on Friday.

Oh, my.  I can't begin to count the number of calls I made.  The buyer, the loan officer, the title company, the seller's agent, the bank's paralegal and attorney.  All multiple times.

What a mess!  The buyer's furniture is being delivered Saturday!  I'm pulling strings like I'm a the only puppeteer in that scene from "The Sound of Music" with all of the marionettes to myself (The Goat herder's Song?).  But I digress.

Unfortunately, this is one time that my magic will  only go so far.  We are not closing on Friday.  The bank wanted to wait four business days, but at least I got them to do it Monday.  The home is vacant and the sellers have no other closing.  The buyers have no other closing.  The title company can do a Monday closing.  So we will be late by one business day, but we will close.  But only a partial success on my part.

So the answer to today's questions is that it is easier to wrestle a sick cat into a onesie than it is to deal with bureaucratic banks.

Sounds like you've done what could be done and maybe the impossible. I hate it when the loan officer only says it's a go, or no problem. That said, I always convince my buyers to pick a Wednesday as a closing day. Almost always you can get it done by Friday and most people will be happy.
