You came into my life quite by surprise. I called you our "roommate".
You loved me even when I didn't treat you well.
You have never treated me or my siblings like we were anything less than your "real children".
You always told me I was beautiful, even when my eyes were red and my face was splotchy from "the ugly cry".
You gave me my first sip of alcohol on the beach as long as I didn't tell Mom.
You patiently taught me how to drive a stick shift, even as I ground the gears and pouted in frustration.
You walked me down the aisle and gave me away to someone else, but never truly let me go.
You stood by me when times got rough, encouraging me all the way. You still do that.
You always listen to my problems without judgement, just an open heart.
You never have a problem telling me how proud you are of me.
You have always been my rock, my guide, my compass pointing to true north.
You have shown me how a man should treat his wife and how a father should treat his family.
You are proof that you don't have to be blood to be family.
