The average realtor in my area is 55 and male.
I do not fit that demographic. I am 39 years old and have two small children; ages 18 months and 5 years. I am a full-time realtor that currently serves on our PR committee and board of directors. The position on the board of directors was a fill-in position that happened when a member left. I have been asked to officially run for one of the two open spots coming up this July and if elected, will serve for a 3 year term. This involves many early morning meetings, after hours special events, and conventions. This added responsibility on top of an already booked work schedule could make it hard for my kids to feel stable.
Enter my husband who is truely "Super Dad". He is constantly re-arranging his work schedule to fit around mine. We are very, very lucky that he has a job that comes with a day hours, no weekends, health insurance, dental insurance, and a fairly reliable schedule. If I have someone that wants to look at houses with a day notice (happens quite often lately), he tells me quite simply "no problem, I'll figure it out and get the kids picked up". He gets them from our baby sitter, feeds them supper, plays with them, gives them a bath, reads to them and gets them to bed.
As my time as a realtor gets longer, I find myself busier and busier with year round business. My husbands role in our household has gotten bigger and bigger and he has risen to the occasion this past year especially.
Hats off to all the "real estate" dads who make their wives careers easier to handle so that we can keep bringing home the bacon!
Happy Fathers Day to all!
